Be it known that I` lsziao HAMMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the citv of ew York. borough of the Bronrnin the county of Brons and State of New York, have invented a new and lmproved Door-Lock, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a lock adjustable for being released by a key; to provide means for throwing a bolt operable at both sides of a door; to provide an adjustment.L at one side of the lock so arranged. that the lock may not be operated from the opposite side thereof; and to simplify the construction of the lock.

aline with the perforations in the shackles 15 when said shackles are fully extended through the perforations in the extension 13. rl`he bolts 16 are integrally mounted on a body portion 17. The body portion 17 has a slot 18 formed therein. through which extends a guide bar 19. The body portion 17 has a recess 2O to receive the ward arms 21 and 22, respectively., for moving the body portion to project and retract the bolts 16. The ward arms 21 and 22 are mounted on the short shafts 23 and '24, respectively. The shaft has `iixedly attached thereto a mutilated ratchet wheel 25, the teeth of which are normally engaged by a'fpawl 26, to prevent the retractive rotation of said ratchet wheel. The pawl 26 is 'normally held in engagement with the ratchet wheel 25, by a spring 27, when said pawl is I.' it rocked on the pivot 28 by the operation of the lever 29. iNormally the body portion and bolts 16 connected therewith are held in extended position by the lug 30. The lug 30 is normally engaged by an offset 31 on the latch lever 32. The latdh lever 32, shown best in Fig. 8,. is pivotally mounted on the body portion 17 by the stud shaftl 33. The latch lever 32 has a lateral extension 34, which extends into the recess 2O in the path of the arms 21 and 22. Theofi'ice of the eX- tension 34 is to enable the arms 2l and 22 to lift the lever 32, and the free end thereof having the offset 3l with the result that the shoulder of the oii'set 31 is lifted out of engagement with the lug 30. This arrangement of the lever 32 admits of the retraction of the body portion 17 and the bolts 16 connected therewith.
As seen best in Fig. 8 of the drawings, the odset 31 of the latch 32 falls behind and engages from the rear side, the lug 30. In this position, 4the body portion 17 and bolts 16 are prevented from being advanced or moved to engage the shackles 15.
The recess 20 above referred to is formed between the lateral extensions 35, the lower surfaces of which are curved to form cutaway portions 36, which permit the passage of the arms 21 and 22. The latch 32 is normally held against the lug 30 by a spring 37. The shafts 23 and 24 are.provided with manipulating handles 38 and 39, respectively. To release the said wheel, the pin barrel 41 otl a cylinder lock is rotated to the position shown by solid lines in Fig. 7 of the drawings. where the extension l2 is shown as lifted under the tail of the lever 29. To release the pawl. the pa rtv ll'ith the key 43 inserted in the pin barrel l1. the same may be turned until the extension 42 is lifted to thel position shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, which rocks the lever 29 to litt the toothed end of the pawl 2G. This frees the ratchet Wheel 25 and permits the rotation of the shaft 24, with the eeot that the arm connected therewith ente-rs the recess Q0 to lift the lever 32 and otiiset 31 out of engagement with the lug 30. The continuation of the rotation of the shaft 2l results in retraeting the body portion 17 and bolts 1G out ot' engagement with the shackles 15. The door is then free to be opened.
To withdraw the key 13. it is necessary to re-rotate the pin barrel stl. which permits the reingagement ot the pawl 2t; with the wheel 25. Vl`here-t'ore. it is obvious that the handle 39 cannot be turned to ettect the withdrawal ot the bolts lo. The bolts 16 are shot by turning the handle 3S after the person 1111s closed the door. 'from the inside otl the room. the shaft .23 and arm 22'being operated to this end.
