To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. 000K, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in F cot-Arch Supports, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to foot arch supports and has for its main object, the provision of a structure of this class which positively supports the arch of a foot and which may be readily applied to any foot wear.

It is well known that the ordinary arch support is constructed from metal which is bowed and which depends on the strength of the material to prevent breakage of the same while it will be readily seen in my structure, the main body portion bears on the insole of the shoe the full length.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an arch support which is provided on its under side with a resilient strip which is attached thereto at one extremity and free at its other extremity, the purpose of which is to give a certain amount of springiness to the arch support.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a structure of the class described which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and strong and durable in its construction.

With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts fully pointed out in the following description and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough on the line 2-2, of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 10, designates a body portion of any suitable material such as fiber, hard rubber, wood or a light non-corrosive metal, the same being formed as shown and provided with an upwardly curved projection 11. The body portion is formed on its underside with a centrally arranged recess 12, adjacent the heel portion of the same and secured therein by means of a rivet 13, is a resilient strip 14, which is preferably constructed from rubber. It will be noted that the under side of the body portion is fiat and bears on the insole of the shoe the full distance of its length and that the upper side 15, is curved as illustrated to conform to the arch of the foot, thus forming a very durable practically unbreakable member. It will further be .noted that the recess 12, is disposed at an angle with relation to the under surface of the member 10, thus causing the strip 14, to extend slightly below the surface of the member 10, at its free extremity, giving the necessary springiness to the device. The upper surface of the member 10, is provided with a flexible covering 16, which is preferably of leather and which is of similar configuration to the member 10, the same being secured thereto by means of the rivets 17.

While I have shown and described a simple and preferred form of my invention, I wish to have it understood that such changes, and alterations as fall within the scope of the appended claim may be resorted to when desired.

What I claim is:

A foot arch support comprising a solid body of rigid material having its lower surface flat and its upper surface curved for conforming engagement with the arch of a foot, said lower surface being provided with an inclined recess having its maximum depth at approximately the center of the body and merging at its other end into said flat surface, a strip of elastic material disposed within said recess and having one end disposed entirely within said recess and having its other end extending below said fiat bottom surface, and a securing member extending through said strip and into said body.
