To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY H. Wnsr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garmerit-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in garment fasteners and more particularly to such as are commonly used on womens Wearing apparel, gloves, etc. The principal object of the invention is to provide a fastener of the snap type so constructed as to prevent the strain placed thereon by the garment from having any tendency whatsoever to separate the two parts of the fastener.

With the foregoing object in view, the invention resides in the novel construction of the fastener herein described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein:

Figure 1 is a plan view of the fastener applied;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of one of the fasteners; and

Fig. 4 is a section thereof on the plane of the line 4: 1 of Fig. 3.

In the manufacture of the present invention, a pair of metal plates 1, preferably of circular shape, are each stamped at a single operation into the required design. Each plate 1 is formed with a plurality of perforations 2 around its edge to receive attaching stitches 3, and the central portion of each plate 1 is stamped laterally from said plate to form a circular hook bill 41; joined at one edge to the remainder of the plate by an oblique hook shank or neck 5. As seen at 6, one of the bills 4 is stamped toward its respective plate 1 into substan tially concavo-convex form, while at 6', the other bill is stamped in the opposite direction into the same shape. By this arrangement, and the proper proportions, the two bills will interlock as shown in Fig. 2 when the two plates are shifted toward each other in the proper manner. The device will thus be an elfective fastener and the strain th'reon in the direction of the arrows A of Fig. 2 Will have no tendency whatever to loosen the fastener. Whenever required however it may be released by pulling the edges of the material to which it is attached in opposite directions. i

From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be obvious that although the improved fastener is of extremely simple and inexpensive nature, it will be highly efiicient and durable, particular emphasis being laid upon the fact that the strain placed upon the fastener by the material to which it is attached, has no tendency whatever to release the device as now commonly occurs with the snap fasteners in every day use. Since probably the best results are obtained from the exact construction shown, this construction is preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes in form and proportion may well be made. Also, it is to be understood that the device is not limited to use in any particular field, but may be employed wherever desirable.

I claim:

A fastener comprising a pair of resilient sheet metal disks having openings along their edges to receive attaching stitches, the central portion of each plate being stamped laterally to form a hook bill of disk-shape spaced from and parallel with the remainder of the plate, said bill being joined to the plate by a narrow oblique hook shank which permits the springing of the bill freely away from the plate, the central portion of the bill of one plate being stamped toward said plate into substantially, concavo-convex form and the central portion of the other bill being stamped oppositely into the same shape, the two bills being adapted to snap into interlocking relation when the two plates are shifted endwise toward each other.
