Be it known that we CHRISTOPHER W. MGLEAN, of `thevcity of ew Berne and State of North Carolina, and WILLIAM M. ELroN, of the city of Brooklyn and Stateof 'New York,

' have made jointly a newand useful Improvement in RailwayDumping-Cars ;V and we do hereby declare 'the following to be a true and correct description 'of theV construction and opt eration of the same, reference being had to the the drawing hereunto attached making part and parcel of'this our specification.

V'.Lhe nature and object of this'invention is so to construct a dumping-car, arranged and applied to 'a platform-car, as that the coal, ore,

grain, or Vother material can be-dnmped, dis- Achai-ged, or deposited on either side ofthe 'railway-track, as may. be desired, by means'of certainwheels and ratchets attached tothe samedumping-car, and to retain such car,

' whiledischarging' its load, upon the platforml car by means of certain guides and grooves;

also, in the arrangement and construction of' theV miustablesidesof such dumping-car, sothat they can be released and fastened with 4ease and great certainty. v
