To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN J. WENDEL and HARRY W. BALSLEY, citizens of the United States, and residents of Syracuse,
in the county of Onondaga, in the State of clear, and exact description.
. This invention relates to certain improvements in draft controlled detents as applied more particularly to the automatic regulation of draft and check .dampersof heaters andto the operation of electric switches and other'time controlled apparatus. j
r The main object is to provide simple and comparatively inexpensive means adapted to be set by the operatorto automatically trip the detent at any time within a period of twelve hours from the time of setting for opening a draft damper, closing 'a check damper, or simultaneously opening one damper and closing the other, or for operating an electric switch to open orclose an "electric lighting or other circuit at a predetermined time.
In other words, we have sought'to provide chronometer controlled means for causing thedraft ofa heater to be opened 'at any predetermined time, as for example,iin the morning after the device has'been set the night'before, or'it'may be used to automatically turn out the lights" of an electric circuit at any predetermined time, as" for example, at mid-night or at the dawn of day, without further attention from the operator after being set anytime during the previous twelve hours. - Other objects and uses relating to specific parts of the device will be brought out'in the following descri tion. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the actuator 1 consists of a gear or pinion secured to the rear end of an alarm operating spindle c of an ordinary alarm clock C, and meshing with a sliding toothed rack 3 which is guided in suitable ways 4 on the'back of a clock supporting frame 5, so that when the alarm spindle 0 isset 'in the usual manner to be released at a'predetermined time, the toothed rack 3 will be shifted or set to its normal supporting position, and upon the automatic release of the alarm spindle c in'the manner well known for alarm clocks, the pinion or actuator -1 will be rotated in the direction indicated by the arrow X, Fig. 2 to shift the bar 3 to the position shown by dotted lines Fig. 2, the bar being limited in its forward and backward movement by stops 6- thereon engaging with the inner faces of the guide-ways 4:
