stood that the upper-Vend of the tubings 15 lit over the reduced neck 14, as clearly shown in order to facilitate the attachment ofthe caps 13 to the tub-ings 15. It should be understood that the neck portions 14 are formed so as to constitute a reinforcement for the respective ends of the tubings 15, and that the respective ends of the tubings 15 are adapted to conform to the contour of the lower curved edge 16 of the cap 13 (Fig. 11). These caps 13 are provided with apertures 17 within the sides thereof, inorder that a complete circulation of water may pass through the caps 13, and suitable apertures 13 are formed in the respective ends of the caps 13, for the purpose of permitting the securing bolts 19 to pass therethrough, and firmly hold the caps 13 in engagement with and in nested relation with respect to the filler plates 20 and sections 21.
A betteln outlet casing 22 is adapted to be supported upon the frame 23 of the automobile or other motor vehicle, and this casing 22 is provided with suitable comm-unicating means 24, similar to that described and illustrated with respect to the casing 2, for the purpose of forming a communication with the bottom caps 13 of the samel construction as the top caps 13. It is thought unnecessary to go into detail in the-i description of the bottom caps 13, in view of the fact that these caps are merely a du plicate ci the structure described in detail inthe specification and illustrated in Figs.
` 1G and 11 of the drawings.
lt should. be understood that a plurality of circulating sections 21 are placed between the caps 13 in the following way: A circulating section is first used, and between an abutting circulating section is placed a washer 25, which washer is of course provided with a suitable aperture for'registering with the circulating section 21. The respective ends of the radiating tube are then fittedv between two of the circulating sections 21, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, thereby permitting complete circulation throughout aseries of circulating sections and caps 13, as well as through the tube sections 11. A filler strip 2O is placed in the upper end of each tube section, which fits between the circulating Sections 21, and this filler plate is provided with a plurality depending lips 26, which iit into the reupon the filler strips 20. The filler strips 2O are provided/with suitable apertures 27 formed therein, through which the lsecuring bolts 19 pass, for firmly connecting the circulating sections and filler strips together. Each radiating tube 15 comprises a pair of plates, as shown clearly in Fig. 6, which plates have their/abutting ends 28 soldered atlng tube sections 15, are arranged in zigzag relation throughout their entire length, and as shown in Fig.- 4 a plurality of bracing plates are employed comprising a primary set of lates 30, and an auxiliary set of bracin p ates 31. The primary set of bracing p ates are provided with inwardly enlarged, substantially V-shapedsockets 32, for receiving the bow portions of the radiat; ing tubes or tube sections and the auxiliary plates are also provided with V-shaped sockets 33, for the same purpose. Additional sockets 34 are formed transversely upon the auxiliary bracing plates 31, for receiving the substantially V-shaped web portions 35 of the primary bracing plates 30. By means of the device illustrated, especially in Fig. 4 and above described, it will be seen that the tube sections 11 will be eiliciently braced and will be held against vibration.
As shown clearly in Fig. 1, of the drawings, it will be seen that thebottom casing or casting 22 is provided with outlet apertures 36 formed to receive the drain pipes 37 and these drain pipes 37 are provided with lock'n'uts 38 for firmly holding the casing or casting 22 in engagement with the frame' 23. Drain cocks 39 are carried by these pipes 37. It should be understood that the entire radiator may .be easily 105 1 drainedwhen so desired, through the medium of these drain pipes 37.
, It should be understood that the top radiator sections are connected and held together by means of the transversely eXtend- 1.10 ing bolts 19, and these sections are gradually reduced in height when the ends of the radiator are arranged in step like relation as v shown clearly in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The inner wall 40 of the tube section 41 is 115 provided with an opening ata point indicated by the numeral 40, and the outer wall of this top indicated by the numeral 41 is provided with an opening for forming a communication between the socket 42 and 120 socket 43. In like manner the radiator sections which are stepped downwardly at the respective ends 'of the radiator, may have a complete communication, as is illustrated in Fig. 13 of the drawings.
In a device of the class described, the combination with sections, tubes having their ends fitting between some of said sections, of a flat filler fitting in each end of each tube, each ller including a closed top und vertical sides, eafch filler provided near its upper end with horizontal apertures, said sides also provided at their lower ends with inwardly-extending horizontal feet with a, space between said feet constituting an opeuing, and means in the horizontal apertures o f the ller and extending through Said Sectlons for securing said fillers between seidl sections, substantially as scribed.
