Description
J. W. H. DOUBLER.
Hook or Clasp-Fastening for Shoes Patented July 2, 1872.
.Q. B S S E n mu W NITED STATES JOHN W. H. DOUBLER, OF DARLINGTON, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WILLIAM LOGUE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HQOK OR CLASP FASTENINGS FOR SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,603, dated July 2, 1872.
vor places where buttons or buckles are used;
and consists in the novel construction of a clasp or hook, as hereinafter more fully described; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description" of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the ac- .companyin g drawing with letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of two pieces of ma terial with myinvention attached. Fig. 2 is an upper view of the hook or clasp. Fig. 3 is an under view of the same; and Fig. 4 is a side view of the same, and the material to which the clasp is attached.
A A represent two pieces of leather orother material with the hooks or clasps attached, and the cord 0 secured thereto, showing the method of using my invention. The hooks or clasps B are made of wire or other material of suitable size, according to the place where desired to be used. The upper side of the clasp or hook B is formed in two parts, 0 c, with an opening, 01, between, as shown in Fig. 2. Each part of the under side of the clasp or hook is bent outward and then downward, and has loops at a, Figs. 3 and 4, for the purpose of fastening the hook to the material A by a cord or wire passing through the loops a a, as represented by dotted lines 6 6, Fig. 1, the loops or a. being first passed through the material A. D represents a button or other ornamental device, which may be placed between the hoolr or clasp and the material if desired. 0 represents a cord or string used to fasten the two parts A A, having the books or clasps B attached.
The operation of my invention is as follows: One end of the cord 0 is passed under the parts or loops 0 0 of the clasp B, and around through the center opening d, which secures that end of the cord. The other end of the cord is then passed under the parts 0 c of each clasp B, and at the last clasp B, enthe-niaterial to be secured together, the cord is passed around through the opening at and that end of the cord is also secure. If desired the cord may be passed through the opening cl of any one or more of the clasps B, as shown at I), Fig. 1.
The advantage of my invention is that it saves both labor and time, as by its use no hard knots are required; and a shoewhen it is used upon a shoe-can be laced and unlaced quickly, and that as well and quickly in the dark as in the light.
I do not confine myself to any peculiar method of securing the clasp or hook to the material upon which the same may be used 5 but Having thus fully described my invention, a
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The clasp or hook B, with parts or loops 0 c and opening d, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The clasp or hook B provided with button D, and operating to secure the cord 0, as
-- shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 16th day of April, A. D. 1872, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, JOHN W. H. DOUBLER.
