Description
L. J. SINDELAR.
Patented ov. 12, 19H3.
Wf Ness es @iwi-Tj' UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.-
LAMBERT J. SINDELAR, OF HOWELL,- NEBRASKA.A
Application filed March 22, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAMBERT J. SINDELAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Howell, in 'the county of Colfax, State of Nebraska, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Knobs and the like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and y use the same.
This invention relates `to new and useful improvements in knobs and the like for securing electric wires to suitable supports such as houses and the like, and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character especially adapted for use inconnection with double twisted conductors.
A further object of the invention isto provide a device of this character in which the conductor is adjustable with respect to the knob, and the knob is at the same time adjustable with respect to its support.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective View of the knob,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the knob attached to a suitable support and showing the manner of attachment of the conductor,
Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing another manner in which the knob may be used g and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal view on the -line 4-'4 of Fig. 1. i
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the knob comprises a block of insulating material, the rear face 5 of which is llat to provide for its attachment to a suitable support. The front face 6 of the knob is curved as shown, and arranged centrally of the knob and extending transversely therethrough from the front curved face of the flat rear face is an opening 7 which is adapted to receive a lag screw or the like which forms the means by which the knob is secured to its support.
Specification of Letters Patent.
KNOB AND THE LIKE.
Patented Nov. 12, 1918.
Serial No. 156,676.
Arranged in parallel relation upon oppo` site sides of the transversely extending aperture 7 are grooves 8 which extend entirely around the block and have that portion which is adjacent the flat rear face 5 cut deeper than the remaining portion of the grooves.
In use, the device is adapted to be secured to any suitable support by means 0f a lag screw or the like l0 which passes through the opening 7 and engages with the said support. The strands of a twisted conductor are then separated and each strand is passed around one of the grooves 8 and has its end secured in a proper manner to the conductor after having been passed around the knob. If the lag screw 10 be loosened it will be seen that the knob is free to move thereabout to properly position itself in direct alinement with the strain of the conductor thus permititng the knob to properly position itself when the strain thereon is at an angle thereto. Owing to said grooves being cut deeper at the points adjacent the Hat rear face of the block, the strands of the conductor will be retained out of engagement with the support to which the block is attached.
Wvhen it is desired to make right angle turns as around the corner of a building as shown in Fig. 3, the block may be attached to the cornerr of a building or the like with one of the side edges of the rear flat face overlapping the said corner and it will thus be seen that the strands of the conductor will pass around the corner out of engagement with the support.
It is, of course, to be understood that the knob is constructed of porcelain or like material from which such devices are formed and it will be seen that the present invention provides a knob to which a conductor may be secured at various angles and in different positions, said knob permitting of this due to its construction and the manner in which it is supported.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising a block flat at its rear face and having a front curved face, the block being termedate with respect to the seats, and a formed with spaced parallel grooves openfastener engaged in said opening. 10 ing through the sides, front and rear faces In testimony whereof, I affix my signature thereof and forming continuous substan in the presence of two Witnesses.
