i 4a full, clear, and eXact description ofthe in- Be it known that Ijl-lZARD'BeIDNQ"il citizen ofjtlie UnitedfStatesjresiding at Okahumpka, in the county of Lake State y 12111@ 1 useful Improvements. in rlent --Cov`eri`1igs;
of Florida', fhave invented 'certainiie' and I do hereby declarethe `following tobe vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainstof make and use the same. 1 y f My invention relates to tent coverings, and
' more particularly todevices of this nature f a manner for eliiciently protecting the vege-` tation whetherthe same be planted in rows or in hills and which coverings can be posi--` for protecting trees, shrubbery, plants and like vegetationfrom frost,fchilly winds or the `hot rays of the sun as the case. maybe. One ofthe obJects of Vthis invention is to provide noveltent'coverings constructed in tioned and secured at their ledges `to the ground-to cover theplants orv removed there-` from in a speedy and ready manner.
i These and other objects and advantages will more fully appeal' as thenature of theV invention is more clearly understood `from the i following description taken in connection with the accompanying 'drawings wherein there is disclosed certain embodiments of the invention, butwhich are susceptible to numerous alterations and variationsin the ,form of the invention for of the corners of the covering, drawn` on an enlargedscale, showing themeans fory secur= ing the corners of the covering to the ground.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 0f the'drgiwings, V1Y indicates the tent covering,:which may be formed ofany suitable clieapfabric,
and Vin this instance the fabric is formed in Y elongated rectangular sheets and has secured therein along its `longitudinal .medial line by 1 the row of stitches@ the cord 3 .whichlprojects for a suitable distance beyond the ends ofthe covering 1 and adapted to bedrawn taut and'its ends suitablyxsecured tothe f PATENT mfneznnn Banniiv, or oKAHUivir-KA, FLORIDA. y

iipper"-end portions" of thefstakes or lyhOd'S' which are"4 driven ninto the ground at `the ends of fthe" covering and extend a sufficient height abovefthe ground to enable the i cover- 1 to` be positioned over thel plants and out 'of contact therewith. The sideedges of the coveringl are hemmed or otherwise suitably reinforced as at 5, and suitably securedupon the corners of the covering-1 are the loops''which pass through the eyes 7 of the corner pinsS. Also upon the side edges of the covering 1 between the respective corners are the plurality lfof `loops 9 vfor engaging the eyes 10 of the side pins ll. Y
Afterthe Vcovering lhas been suspended upon the stakes 4 through the medium of the cord 3, the'side edges of the covering .are each `moved outwardly from the sides of the plants and the corner pins 8 and side pins ll are driven intofthe ground, preferably at an inclination as shown in Fig. 2, for securing the edges of the covering 1 to jthe ground.`
j" The foregoing construction is primarily designed for covering vegetation `that is `planted in rows andthe covering may be Aof any suitable length and width in accordance with the character of plants to -be covered, and any number may be employed for covering the row by positioning the cov. erings end to end.`
\ TheV devices lare capable of being readily applied to "or readily removed from the rows of plants or the like and are primarily designed :for protecting the plants from the danger of frost and chilly winds and may Y `also be employed forprotecting the plants from the scorching rays of the sun. The Acovering may be positioned over the plants at nightwhentliere is danger of frost and.
removed the: next morning if desired, however, in certain cases the cornervand side pins `at the side of the covering facing the sun Amay be withdrawn from the ground and this half of the cover thrown ,backwardly over tliecord 3 or upon the other sideof y the coveringandV thereby expose the plants tothe `rays of the sun at one siderand protecting the plants from chilly winds at the `other sideof the plants, and at night, if there is danger of the plantsv becoming frozen'or frost bitten, the side which has been [folded back" during the day 'may be replaced lfor entirely' protecting the plants at night.
Having described my invention, what I` claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:`-" 'f In a device of the character specified, the combination of an elongated fabric body, said fabric body being stitched along its longitudinal medial line to provide a tubular portion thereat, a cable extending through said tubular 'portionand projecting for a distance beyond the ends of said body portion, stakes disposed at the ends ofA said body portion for receiving the projecting ends of said cable, a plurality of loops secured upon the side edges of said body, a
plurality of pins, andring-shaped heads upon "said pins'secured upon said loops, 15 whereby to secure the side edges of said body to the ground `inkspaced relation to each other when said pins are driven into the ground.
In testimony whereof I have `:signed my 20 naine" to` this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
