Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented (Dot. 2a, 1918..
Application filed June 13, 1917. Serial No. 174,563.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAROLINE WALLE, residing at Berlin, in the county of La Moure and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to water heaters and more particularly to heaters adapted particularly for bath use. The heater comprises a tank to contain water and a cover for the tank which may be removed from the top of the tank and disposed upon the floor to form a bathtub. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of the specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved water heater, the cover being shown ilnn its position for use as a bath tub in dotted Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a water tank supported upon legs 2 which legs also carry a shelf 3 whereon a gas stove 4t fed by gas supply pipe 5 is carried. The water tank 1 is provided with the inlet pipe 6 and with the flexible outlet pipe 7 provided with stop cock 7*. The said water tank, further, is rovided along one end with the vertically isposed flanges 8, 8 which extend below the base of said tank and which are slotted longitudinally at 9 to receive the sliding bolts 10 carried by the angular guide arms 11 which are carried by the cover 12 which is provided with the handle 13. In Fig. 1 of the drawing the cover 12 is shown upon the tank 1. In this position the water, previously introduced into the tank through the pipe 6, is heating. To remove the cover 12 the operator grasps the Contest of this patent may be obtained for handle 13 and raises the cover and moves it into the position shown in dotted lines. This operation moves the arms 11 longitudinally of the flanges 8 and moves the bolts 10 through the slots 9. The cover is placed upon the floor in inverted position with respect to the position shown in full lines on top of the tank 1. The flexible pipe 7 is now used to conduct water from the tank into the cover which may then be used as a bath tub after which it may be emptied by removing the bolts 10 and emptying the water in any manner desired. The cover can then be again connected to the tank and is ready for the next operation.
What is claimed is 1. In a water heater, a tank having an inlet and an outlet pipe, flanges formed upon saidtank and a cover movably connected to said flanges and adapted to fit said tank as a closure therefor and to be removed from said tank and disposed beside the same to serve as a receptacle for the contents of said tank which are conducted thereinto through the medium of said outlet pipe.
2. In a water heater, a water tank, longitudinally slotted flanges formed upon said tank, a cover adapted in one position for disposal upon said tank to form a closure therefor, guide arms for said cover slidable over the said flanges, bolts carried by said guide arms slidably disposed in the slotted portions of said flanges through the medium of which and said guide arms said cover may be moved from said tank and disposed beside the same and an outlet pipe for said tank adapted to lead into said cover in its nonoperative position as a closure for said tank.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afixed my signaturein the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
