Referring now to thecharacters of reference on thedrawings:
1 indicates the car in general, 2 the side hopper sheets thereof, the lower edges of which are: adapted to contact with thedoor and form closures together with similar hopper sheets extending on the other sides .of thehopper to complete the closure. 3 is the central ridge of thecar formed, as shown, of a plate bent angularly'to cover the center sill and door operating mechanism, 4 indicates the door rigging in general, 5 the connecting links thereof, 6 are clevis bolts secured to the doors and connected with the links aforesaid. As illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, 7 indicates the car door in gen- .eral, 8 an opening between the two portions thereof, the door being provided with an integral downwardly extending flange 9, ex-
tending around all the edges thereof, 10 is a posed between it and thedoor, theends of the spreader being secured or riveted to the door plate, as shown, and 12 is a flat reinforcing plate attached to the door, as illustrated.
As illustrated in Figs. 6 to 8 inclusive, 13 is the car door in general, 14 an opening between the two portions thereof, 15 is an integral flange on the forwardend of the door which is preferably deeper at its intermediate portions and tapers thence to the ends of the door, this forward flange serving as a stiffening member for thedoor. This forward flange 15 has an inwardly bent portion 16 adapted to further strengthen and stiffen it. The rear integral flanges of the door are 17 and it is also provided with integral side flanges, as shown, in fact, the entire door is provided with an integral continuous flange extending downwardly from all the edges thereof, the front flange being deeper and tapering as above described. 18 is the integral flanged edge of the door at its narrow-V est portion adjacent to the'opening 14, 19 is a pan-shaped brace either formed of pressed plates or a casting secured to the door, as illustrated, and provided with an opening to receive the clevis bolt 20, which is secured E thereto, as illustrated, for the purpose of attaching to the door operating mechanism.
' Referring now to Figs. 9 to 11 inclusive, 21 indicates another slightly modified form of door in general, provided with two end portions and a space or opening 22 between the same, 23 "isthe front flange portion formed integral with the door,fprojecting downwardly therefrom and of less depth at the ends than at the central portion, being provided with an integral flanged edge 24 which projects outwardly, as illustrated, to further stiffen the door, inaddition to which the'reinforcing angle 25 is secured to the intermediate portion thereof, as illustrated. This door is also provided with an integral flange extending around all the edges thereof, that at the narrowest portion being 26 and the rear flange 27. A brace 28, which may be either formed of pressed plates or a casting, is secured to the door, as illustrated, and provided with an opening to receive the clevis bolt 29, which is adapted to be secured to the door operating mech-' anism. 7

It will be seen fromthe foregoing that we provide a door made in one piece adapted to close a pair of twin hoppers, one on either side of the center sill of the car or otherwise and all margins of the door are provided with downwardly extending flanges formed may usesuch substitutions, modifications, or
equivalents thereof, as are embraced within the scope of our invention, or as pointed out in the claims. 7.

A car drop door comprisinga metal plate of substantially rectangular outline, the intermediate portion of which is narrower than the'end portions, integral downwardly extending marginal flanges on all edges thereof, a longitudinal stiffening member securednear the front edge thereof, and means for attaching the door operating mechanism thereto.
6. A car drop door comprising an integral metal plate narrower at thecenter than at its end portions, avmarginal flange on all edges thereof, a flanged stiffening member secured to they door plate near the outer edge thereof and adapted to reinforce the narrow central portion of the door, and provided with a clevis bolt secured thereto for attachment to the door operating mechanism.
7 A car drop door comprising a metal plate composed of a pair of substantially rectangular end portions, an integral narrow portion connecting the same, integral downwardly extending marginal flanges on all edges thereof, the forward flange being deeper than the others and provided with ends tapering gradually to substantially the same depth.
8. A car drop door comprising a metal I plate, the central portion of which is narrower than the end portions, integral marginal flanges extending downwardly from all the edges thereof, the forward flange being deeper than the others and tapering from its central portion toward the door ends, a flanged reinforcement attached to the door plate and provided with an opening therethrough, adapted to receive a clevis bolt for attachment to the door operating mechanism.
