To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LUDWIG G. l/VIDLAK, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag or PurseFrames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe 1nvention, such as will enable others skllledln the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates, generally, to 1mprovements in bag-frames, and the llke; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to an improved bag, or purse frame, comprising usually threeframe-sections, two of which are connected with each other at their ends by means of pivot-pins, and the third frame-sectlon being pivotally connected, so as to be revers1- ble with the other two frame-sections, by mean of pivot-plates with the pivot-pins of the said two frame-sections.

The present invention has for its princlpal object to provide in connection with the pivotal means of connection of the three frame-sections of a reversible bag or purseframe, means cooperating with the third and reversibly disposed framesect on, whereby the said reversible frame-section, no matter in which final position, elther upon the front or the back of the two ma n and pivotally connected frame-sectlons, w ll always be in perfect registration with said two main frame-sections.

Other objects ofthe present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present in vention.

With the various objects of the present in vention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel reversible bag or purse-frame and frame-section registratlon means therefor; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the several novel arrange.- ments and combinations of the various parts, as Well as in the details of the construction of the same, all. of which will be more fully described in the following specification and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended. to andwhich form an essential part of the said specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which 2- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bag or purseframe comprising two main framesections, and a third and reversibly disposed frame-section hingedly connected in the manner of the present invention and provided at the hinge-connections with a frame registering means, showing one embodiment of the rinciples of the present invention; and Fig. 2 is an end view of the bag or purse-frame.

Fig. 3 is a detail sectional representation of the three frame-sections, said sec tion being taken on line 3 -3 in said Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow y,- Fig. 4 is a similar sectional representation of the same parts, showing the reversible frame-section being turned from its position indicated in said Fig. 3 in the direction of the arrow .2; and Fig. 5 also is a similar sectional representation showing the third and reversible frame-section rotated into its reversed relation with the two main framesections.

Fig. 6 is a horizontal section, said sec tion being taken on line 6-6 in said Fig. 2, and said view being made on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 7 is a transverse vertical section, taken on line 77 in said Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow m.

Fig. 8 is an end view of a fragmentary part of a three-part reversible frame, showing a slightly modified construction of hinged or pivotal connection in which the outer link-plate is dispensed with.

Fig. 9 is a view similar to that shown in Fig; 8, of a three-part reversible frame, the frame-sections being provided with another form of frame-registering means, and Fig. 10 is a view of the same parts represented in said Fig. 9, but showing the third and reversible frame-section being rotated into its reversed relation with the two main framesections.

Fig. 11 is an end elevation of one of the hinged end portions of a reversible bagframe, in which the frame sections are piv otally connected by means of hinge-devices riveted to the end-portions of the respective frame-sections, the hinge-devices in this instance being provided with frame-registering means embodying the principles of the present invention.

Fig. 12 is an outer face end view, and Fig. 13 an inner face end view of a four-part bag-frame, showing one of the hinged ends of the bag-frame provided with a registering means, similar to that illustrated in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive.

Fig. 14: is an end view, and Fig. 15 a top View of one of the hinged or pivoted endportions of a reversible threepart bagframe, provided with still another modified registering means for bringing the third and reversible frame-section into perfect registration upon either side of the two main frame-sections of the bag-frame.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the said above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now to the said drawings the reference character 1 indicates a complete bag frame, comprising a frame-section 2 and a frame-section 3 each provided at their ends, with perforated ears 1. The perforated ears of said frame-section 2 coiiperate or register with the perforated ears of said frame-section 3, so that a pivot-pin or rivet 5 may be passed therethrough to pivotally connect said frame-sections together. The reference character 6 indicates a reversible frame-section adapted to be connected with said frame- sections 2 and 3, so that it may be turned around to position the same selectively either on one side or the other of said frame- sections 2 and 3. This is accomplished by means of hinge-links 7, one end of each hinge-link being pivotally ournaled on the pivot-pin or rivet 5 of saidpivotally connected frame- sections 2 and 3, and the other end of each hinge-link being pivotally secured to the perforated ears. 8 of said. reversible frame-section 6 by means of a pivot.- pin or rivet 9. It will, of course, be apparent that by thus providing said reversible frame-section 6 in connection with the pivotally connected frame- sections 2 and 3, the complete bag-frame is adapted to support, a

reversible bag-body which may be turned.

inside out at will, to expose one of its two ornamental sides of varying designs, material or color, all of which is old and well known in the. art.

In connection with the two main frame which. may be of the construction set forth in my former application for Letters-Pat ent, filed September 15th, 1916, Serial No. 120,209/15; or, said latch or catch-devices may be of any other suitable constructions, as will be clearly evident.

The alining or registering means for properly positioning the reversible framesection 6 in perfect registration upon either side of the closed main framesections 2 and 3, consists, essentially of suitably shaped link-plates, as 1%, each plate being provided with suitably disposed holes or perforations for pivotally mounting the said plates, firstly, upon the pivot-pins or rivets 5, and, secondly upon the pivot-pins or rivets 9, whereby said link-plates are capable of rotary or turning action upon said pivot-pins or rivets 5 and also upon the pivot-pins or rivets 9, so as to permit of a complete rotary movement of the frame-section 6 from its one position upon the closed frame-sections 17 will suitably abut against the ends 20 of the members 19 of the various frame- sections 2, 3 and 6, and when in the positions indicated in said Fig. 5, then the other straight edge 18 will suitably abut against the saidends 20 of the members 19 of the respective frame-sections, as shown. Thus, it will be clearly seen, that by means of these linkplates, and their cooperation with the re spective frame-sections, no distorted pivotal relation of the various parts will result at the hinge-connections of the frame-sections, and an alining or registered means is the result which will always bring the reversible frame-section 6 into perfect registration, either with the frame-section 2 or with the frame-section 3, according to its position upon either side of the two closed main frame- sections 2 and 3.

If desired, a washer, as 21, may be dis? not essential and may be dispensed with if desired.

Inthe construction represented'in Fig; 8 of the drawings, the two main frame-sections are indicated by the referencecharac-' ters 22' and 23, the said frame-sections being pivotally connected by means of rivets 24 at their respective end-portions. The reference-character 25' indicates thethird and re versible frame-section which is provided with a rivet 26. Mounted upon the said riv ets-24 and 26 in the manner of the previously described alining or registering means, is a link-plate 27, the additional link-plate 7 ,employed in the construction represented in said Figs; 1 to 7 inclusive being dispensed with. In all other respects the operation for producing the perfect alinement or mg istration of the several frame-sections is the same asthat described in connection with the construction shown in said Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive. I

In the modified construction illustrated in Figs. 9 and 10 of the drawings, the reference- characters 28 and 29 indicate two main frame-sections provided at their ends with perforated ears 30, and pivotally connected by means of a pivot-pin or rivet 31. The reference-character 32 indicates the third reversible frame-section which is connected with said main frame-sections 28 and- 29, so that it may be turned around to position the same selectively either on one side or the other of said frame- sections 28 and 29, by means of a hinge-linker plate, as 33, one end-portion of said link or plate 33 being journaled upon the pivot-post 0r pin 31, and the other end-portion of said link or plate being pivotally mounted upon a pivot-post or pin 34 with which the reversible framesection 32 is provided.

The alining or registering means for properly positionin "the reversible framesection 32 in per ect registration upon eitherside of the closed main frame- sections 28 and 29 consists of'laterally and slightly outwardly projecting lugs or extensions, as 35 and 36, against which the respective marginal edge- portions 37 and 38 can be made to abut, as will be clearly evident, so as to provide for the perfect alinement or registration of the respective frame-sections, as will be clearly understood from an inspection ofsaid Figs. 9 and 10.

In some cases the end-portions of the frame- sections 39 and 40, and the reversible frame-section 41, may be cut ofi straight, as indicated in Fig. 11 of the drawings, the two main frame- sections 39 and 40 having secured thereto by means of rivets 42, or otherwise, suitable hinge-members, as 43 and 44, provided with registering and perforated pivot-ears 45, pivotally connected by means of a pivot-post or rivet 46. The third and reversible frame-section 41 has also secured thereto, by means of rivets 47 or otherwise, a hinge-member 48, provided with an ear or extension 49, carrying a pivot-post or rivet 50. Journaled upon said pivot-post or rivet 46 is the one end-portion of a hinge link or plate 51, the opposite end-portion of said hinge-link or plate 51 being pivotally mounted upon the said pivot-post or rivet 50. As will be evident from an inspection of said Fig. 11, in one position the edge-portion 52 of the link or plate 51 registers with a rib or projection, as 53, with which the hinge-member 48 is provided, and when the position of the frame-section 41 is reversed, the opposite'edge-portion 54 of the link or plate 51 registers with ribs orproj ections, as 55 and 56, with which the hinge- members 43 and 44 are provided, thus resulting in a perfect alining and registration of the said frame-section upon either side of the two main frame- sections 39 and 40, as will be clearly evident. I

In Figs. 12 and 13 I have shown a four part bag-frame, consisting of an arrangement of four frame-sections, 57, 58, 59 and 60, the frame- sections 57 and 58 being pivotally connected by means of the pivotposts or rivets 61, and the frame-sections 59 and 60' being pivotally connected by means of the pivot-posts or rivets 62. Mounted upon the said pivot-posts or rivets 61 and 62, in the manner of the construction described in connection with Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive, are hinge-links or plates 63 and the alining or registering links or plates 64, which cooperate with the respective frame-sections to bring the frame-sections into perfect alinement or registration in the manner herein-above described.

As a further embodiment of the principlesof the present invention, I have shown an arrangement of two main frame-sections .65 and 66 and a third and reversible framesection 67, respectively provided with pivotposts or rivets 68 and 69, and pivotally connected by means of hinge-links or plates 7 O mounted upon said pivot-posts or rivets 68 and 69. To prevent any distorted pivotal relation of the frame-section 67 with the frame- sections 65 and 66, the said main frame- sections 65 and 66 are respectively provided with oppositely extending stopplates, as 71 and 72, which may be secured to saidframe- sections 65 and 66 by means of rivets 73, or may be, otherwise connected therewith, as will be evident. The manner ofproducing perfect alinement or registration of the frame-section 67 selectively with either side of the pivotally connected main frame- sections 65 and 66 will be clearly understood from an inspection of said Figs. 14 and 15 of the drawings, and need not therefore be further described.

I am aware that some changes may be made in the several arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, as described in the foregoing specification and as defined in the claims appended to said specification, without departing from the scope of my present invention. Hence, I do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the said devices and parts as set forth in the foregoing specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of thecon'stru'ction of the said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

I claim 1-. In a bag-frame of the character described, a pair of main frame-sections having pintle-receiving ears, a pivot-post connecting each pair of ears at each end of said frame-sections, a third and reversibly disposedframe-section; pivot-posts at the ends of said reversible frame-section, means connecting the pivot-post's of said main framesections with the pivot-posts of said reversible frame-section for pivotally connecting the latter with said main frame-sections, and means connected with said pivot-posts and cooperating with said frame-sections for bringing said reversible frame-section into perfect alinement and registration upon either side of said pair of main frame-sections.

2. In a bag-frame of the character described, a pair' of main frame sections having pi'ntle-r'ec'eiving ears, a pivot-post connecting' each pair of ears at each end of said frame sections, a third and reversibly disposed frame-section, pivot-posts at the ends ofsaid reversible frame-section, hinge-plates connecting the pivot-posts of said main frame-sections with the pivot-posts of said reversible frame-section for pivotally connectingthe latter with said main frame-sections, and means connected with said pivotpo'sts and coiiperating with said frame-sections for bringing said reversible frame-section into perfect alinement and registration upon either side of said pair of main framese'ctions- 3. In a bag-frame of the character described, a pair of main frame-sections formed with angular members and having pintle-receiving ears, a pivot-post connecting each pair of ears at each end of said frame-sections, athird and reversibly di'srear-"731 posed frame-sectionalso formed with angular members, pivot posts at the ends of said reversible frame-section, link-plates connecting the pivot-post's of said main frame-sections with the pivot posts of said reversible frame-section for pivotally connecting the latter with said main frame sections, said link-plates being adapted to engage the ends of the angular members of the frame-section's and cooperating therewith to bring said reversible frame-- section into perfect a'linement and: registration upon either side of said pair of main frame-sections.

4. In a bag-frame of the character described, a pair of main frame sections formed with angular members and having pintle-receiving ears, a pivotepost connecting each pair of ears at each end of said frame-sections, a third and reversibly disposed frame-section also formed with angular members, pivot-posts at the ends of said reversible frame-section, link-plates connecting the pivot-posts or said main frame-section's with the pivot-posts of said reversible frame-section said link-plates be ing adapted to engage the ends of the angular members of the frame-sections and cooperating therewith to bring said reversible frame-section into perfect alinement and registration upon either side of said pair of main frame-sections, and hinge-plates also connected with said pivot-posts for pivotally connecting said reversible frame-sec-- tion with said pair of main frame-sections.
