To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILE JEAN J ULES SALMsoN, citizen of the Re ublic of France, residing at 9' Avenue des oulineaux, Billancourt, Seine, in the Republic of France, have invented new and useful Improvements in One-Piece Framing for Magnetos, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved one-piece framin for magnetos which shall be equally applicable to lgnition magnetos for internal combustion engines and to magnetos for lighting vehicles, whether they are of the revolving armature or the revolving shutter type.
The framings of ma etos as constructed hitherto, have been bui t up of a number of parts, so that perfect rigidity could never e assured, since such a paratus are subjected to the-vibration ac to the motion of the vehicle or engine to which they are fitted.
Now the improvement constituting the present invention facilitates considerably the manufacture and assumes a proper working of the magnetos; their getting out of order being rendered impossible because all the essential parts are mounted permanently on a rigid framing. Moreover, the framing is quite tight.
The lnvention will now be more particu larly described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a constructional example thereof.

Above the base and in front of same, {left side of Fig.
1) there is provided a part 2 approximately shaped as a body of revolution about the axis X, X so as to constitute a bearing for supporting the main shaft of the magneto. Above the axis X, X, there is a second axis Y, Y, parallel to the first axis, and situated like the latter in the plane of symmetry of the entire structure. i
Two casings 3 and 4, situated one in front and the other behind the framing, designed for vinclosing respectively the gears and the distributer, form bearings shaped as bodies of revolution about the axis Y, Y, for supporting the secondary shaft operating the distrlbuter. The casings 3 and 4 are connected to each other.and to the base by means of a middle part 5 of inverted U- shape which will be surmounted afterward by the magnets.
In the lower portion of the U are formed two rectangular apertures situated one on each side of the plane of symmetry, for receiving the pole pieces. The two identically similarpole pieces 6, 6 are fitted in the apertures and held in place by end screws 7. After the pole pieces have been placed in position, the metal of the framing is slightly upset all around the periphery of the pole pieces, whereby a perfectly tight joint is produced in a simple and effective manner, constituting a metal-cased or armored construction which is so desired by engineers.
The magnets 8 straddling the U-shaped part are fixed to the pole pieces by means of screws 9. The lubricating holes 10 pierced in the upper portions of the casings 3 and 4 in bosses provided for that purpose, enable the parts to be lubricated while in motion. An aperture 11 is formed in the forward and lower portion of the framing, on one side only of the latter; it is intended to serve as a passage for the interrupterfinger.
After the erection, covers are fitted in front on the part 2 and the casing 4, and at thehback so as to make the apparatus quite tig t.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 show more particularl the various parts of the magneto which arc:-at the lower portion of the framing, the driving shaft (Z carrying the armature e, the rotating shutter f, the interrupter cams 1, the primary contact it connected to the low tension terminal 13 and the secondary contact is connected to the high tension terminal Z. In the lower portion there is also Patent-ed Oct 15, 1918.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters' Patent is:

A one-piece framing for magnetos comprising essentially a base 1, a part 2 approximatelyfshaped as a body of revolution about the axis of the armature, two casings 3, 4 situated one in front and the other behind the framing, designed for inclosing respectively the gears 'and the dis- 7 tributer, said casings forming bearings for supporting the secondary shaft operating the distributor and being connected to each other and to the base by means of a middle part 5 of inverted U-shape, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. A one-piece framing for magnetos comprising essentially a base 1, a part 2 approximately shaped as a body of revolution about the axis of theiarinature, two casings memes 3, 4 situated one in front and the other behind the framing, designed for inclosing respectively the gears and the distributer, said casings forming bearings for supporting the secondary shaft operating the distributer and being connected to each other and to the base, by means of a middle part 5 of inverted U-shape, two rectangular openings formed respectively at each side'and at the lower portion of the U-shaped middle part, designed for receiving the pole pieces,
an aperture 1 formed in the forward and lower portion of the framing on one side of the latter, and lubricating holes 10 pierced in the upper portions of the casings 3, 4 in bosses provided for that purpose, substan tially forth.
