struction thereof renders the same strong,

without liability of the breaking of the same, irrespective of the strain thereon, and

permitting free flexibility at intervals thereof, so that said trace may move up or down, or inwardly or outwardly when in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a tug or trace of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form, to assure maximum life thereto, and to avoid stiffness thereof, so that the trace can properly play near Vthe harness with which the same is used for the hitching of an animal to a vehicle or farming implement, and when draft is subjected thereto.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a tug or trace which eliminates the use of leather, yet the 'same is freely flexible when in use.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a tug or trace of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eficient in operation, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.

Vlithl these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features 0f construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tug or trace constructed in accorda-nce with the invention.

Fig. 2 is a similar view looking toward the opposite side thereof.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary transverse longitudinal sectional view.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the tug or trace comprises` the sections 5, 6 and 7 respectively, each being made from metal, e1ther iron or steel, and is of any desirable length, so asto give to the tug or trace the proper longitudinal extent, the section 5 being of a width greater than the remaining sections, and tapers as at 8 toward one end. Said section 5 is formed with the strap extensions 9 and 10 respectively, which are bent on themselves, to lie parallel against one side of said section 5, and form loops 11,

the extensions being riveted or otherwise fastened at 12 to the said section 5.

Likewise, the sections 6 and 7 are formed with strap extensions 13, which are bent to lie parallel against said sections, and are riveted or otherwise fastened at 14: thereto for forming loops 15 for receiving substantially D-shaped rings 16, which are between the sections 5, 6 and 7, and are loose in the loops 11 and 15 adjacent each other of said sections, so as to permit free flexibility of the sections relative to each other, either outwardly or inwardly, and downwardly or upwardly, the particular formation of the rings 16 being designed for this purpose.

rIhe loop 11, formed by the extension 9 is adapted to receive-a fastener or hook, while the ring at the other end of the trace or tug carries a hook 17 for the fastening of the trace to the vehicle or the implement when an animal is being hitched thereto.

The extension 13 of the section 6, and adjacent to the section 5 is further bent on itself to form a loop 18, which has loosely mounted therein a ring 19, the latter being identical to the construction of the rings hereinbefore described, and in this ring 18 is engaged a connection withthe belly-band 0f the harness for holding the trace or tug against free outward movement when in use with the harness.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore, a more extended explanation has l been omitted.
