y HvPonERrJrIe-NEEDLE Box.
To all lwlw/mit may concern: y d g y Be it knownthat we, JOHN J. RICHARDS, J r., Ia citizen of the United States, residing at Brookline, in the countyL of Norfolk, and MARSHALL ANDELMAN, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Cambridge, in the' county of Middlesex, `both in the State of lVIassachusetts, have invented new and useful` Improvementsl in` Hypodermic- Needle Boxes, of which the V'following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hypodermick needle box, the objectof the invention being to providea hypodermic needle boX which -is particularly adapted to be used by the lios` pital corps, both on land and sea, and in Iorder Jthat the boX maybe So adapted it is essential that it should be compact, watertight and moisture-proof. Furthermore, it is essential that the needles should be held` firmly inpositionin the boX and held insuch a manner when the cover is removed as to expose the hollow ends of the needle holders so as to enable the physician `to attach a syringe to the sterilized needle holder-without touching said holderwith` hisingers.. '4 ,y It is also the object of this invention to provide in the box a carrier lfor the needles whichdsY rotatable lrelatively to the box', so that the carrier, mit easy access to the hollow holders when the physician dez'sirestoy `insert the end of a syringe in Vsaid holders without touching them with his fingers. A
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view .offour improved hypodermic needle box with the cover removedandswith the hypodermic needles and their holders placed in position in the boX.1-
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a det-ail transverse section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 is the base of the boX having an annular flange 6 thereon. 7 is a carrier for the needles, said carrier being rotatably mounted upon a stud 8 fast to the base 5. The carrier 7 is provided with a Aplurality of cireumferentially arranged U- shaped ears 9, the legs 10 pf said U-shaped ears being located on opposite sides of spaces 1l, the median plane A of each of the spaces by being rotated, will per-' Spec'icaton of Letters Patent. Patented Septll, Y Appneation mea october 2e, 1917. serial 1Yewv1i's.4

dent, canl lbe'L done without touching the i needle and its holder are then removed fromV the boX by lifting the holder ll between the legs 1Y0 by means of 'the' out ofthe space syringe andthel cover isthen replaceduponi thQbQv As the box is held in the `hand by the base 5 and flange 6,the carrier7may be rotated upon the stud Y8 by means of the syringe which projectsinto one of the hold-V ers 12 so as to bring another holder in proper position to have a syringe inserted therein, or, if desired, the carrier may be rotated by means of the ears 9 without touching the needles or their holders.
While it is preferable to have the carrier 7 rotatably mounted uponthe base 5, it is evident that the same may be rigidly attached thereto or be made integral therewith without departing from the spirit of this invention, in which case the base 5 and carrier 7 would constitute, in effect, a single plece and, therefore, applicant does not wish to be understood as Vlimiting his invention to a construction in which the carrier and the base are necessarily formed in two separate pieces. i
The cover 17 may be of transparentA material to expose the contents of the box for sale and-display purposes.
lVhile in the drawings the box and cover are illustrated as of cylindrical form, it is evident that without departing from the spiritof'our invention said boxV and cover may be of other forms, such as square, hexagonal and-the like.
Having thusv described our invention, what we claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:
l. A hypoderinic needle boxfhaving, in
combination, a base, a carrier mounted on saidbase, la series of ycircuinr'erentially disposed U-shaped ears projecting upwardly` from said carrier with spaces therebetween, each of saidfspaces adapted 'to receive the holder yof a hypodermic needle',` the median planes of each' of said spaces being tangential to a circle 'concentric with said carrier, and` a cover inclosing said carrier and litting onto said base.
2. VA hypodermic needle box'coni'prising a base, a carrier'mounted'on said base, a series of pairs 'of upwardly extending projections on said carrier with spaces therebetween, one" projection of each of said pairs being radial to saidcarrier and parallel to the other pro-1 jectionofits respective pair, a'cover inclosing said carrier rand contacting with said base, incombination with a series of hypoderinic needle holders, each'of said holders adapted to t into'one of saidspaces.`
3. A hypodermic needle box comprising a base, a carrier' inou'ntedonsaid base, la series of pairs of'upwardly extending projections on said carrier withspaces therebetween, one
projection of each of -said pairs being radial to said carrier andparallel to the other projectionof its respective pair, a cover inclosingsaid carrier"andfcontlacting with said" base, in combination with a lseries of hypoderrnic needle holders, each of said holders adapted to lit into one of saidspacesand having a pair of Hang'es thereon adapted to abut against said projections.
Ll. A hypoderrnic needle box comprising a base, a carrier mounted on said base, a series of pairs of upwardly extending projections on said carrier with spaces therebetween, Vone proj ection of eaclrof said pairs being radial to said carrier and parallel to the other projection of its respective pair, a'cover inclosf' ing said carrier and contacting with `said base, in combination with a series" of vhypo'- dermicneedle holders', each of said holders adapted to fit into one of said spaces and* having'a pair of iianges thereonadapted to` abutv against said projections, one of said flanges being of greaterV diameter ythanV thev other, flatted off and adapted to engage said cover, ywhereby said holder is heldin correct position in said carrier.
5. Ahypoderinic needle box having, in combination, a'carrier and ia series of circumferentially disposed U-shaped earsV projecting upwardly from said carrier with spaces therebetween, eachfof said spaces;`
adaptedl to receive the holder of a hypoderinic needle, the median'4 planes of each of said spaces being tangential'to a circle con@ centric with said carrier.
6. -A hypodermic needle box comprising a carrier and a series'of pairs of upwardly ex` tending projections on ysaid carrier with' spaces therebetween, one projection lof each of said pairs `being radial tosaid carrier and'V parallel to the other projection of its respec-y tive pair. r
