WALTER SCOTT ELLIOTT PATENT OFFICE.
OF GOSHEN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,967, dated June 18, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER ScoTT EL- LIOTT, of Goshen, Orange county, State of New York, have invented anew and useful Extension Bracket, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of two or more brackets orframes, one above the other, the upper bracket being provided with two friction-rollers working upon V- shaped surfaces arranged at top and bottom of the bracket, situated below the same.
Figure I represents aside view of an extension bracket embodying my invention. Fig. II is a cross-section of the same.
A is the wall-plate, through which the whole bracket isattached to the desired place on the wall. To this plate A a frame, B, is hinged at a a. To the frame B a long frame or bracket, D, is attached, either cast on or. fastened on in any other convenient manner, having on top and bottom V-shaped surfaces parallelwith each other, and planed straight and smooth. Above the bracket D a similar bracket, D, is arranged, having likewise the top and bottom made V-shaped and planed, and corresponding in size and shape exactly with the similar surfaces on the lower bracket D. The body of this upper bracket D may be made somewhat lighter and less in depth than the lower bracket. On the after end of the bracket D lugs n are fastened on each side, supporting at their ends a grooved roller, c, fitting exactly over the lower V-shaped surface on the bracket D, the inner surfaces of said lugs n acting at the same time as guides against the projecting edges or sides of the lower bracket D to prevent any shaking or side motion. A few inches forward of these lugs a similar lugs m are attached to the bracket D, supporting a grooved roller, w, situated in such a position as to bear against the lower V-shaped surface of the bracket D, and work upon the upper V-shaped surface of the bracket D.
By this arrangement of the roller 20 supportin g the bracket D and resting upon the bracket D, in combination with the roller '0 working against the bottom surface of the bracket D, while the inner surfaces of the lugs 12. n fit against the side edges of the lower bracket D, this upper bracket D will be kept perfectly steady, and is at the same time easily moved inward or outward, as may be desired.
Near the forward end of the lower bracket D a stop-pin, s, or projection is attached to prevent the upper bracket from being moved OK the lower bracket. Above the bracket D a similar bracket, D, provided with lugs 01 and m, supporting grooved rollers o and w, arranged and operating as above described, is arranged, and other similarly-constructed brackets may be arranged above this again, according to the length of extension required. At the forward end of the upper bracket a pin, 2, or its equivalent is arranged, to which the desired table or platform is attached to support the tools, instruments or any other desired articles.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The arrangement of two or more brackets or frames, D D, &c., above each other, made with V-shaped parallel surfaces on top and bottom, in combination with grooved frictionrollers 22 w, 860., working in suitable lugs n m, attached to the upper frame and embracing the lower frame, substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth and described.
