The' inner end of the 'signal arln shank 7 also has` a circular head or eiilargexnent 26 through 4which the bolt 25 passes. Under the head 2T of the bolt 25 is held a clip 28 for supportir'ig the wiring 1t). The bolt projects from the part 24;, and on its project-ing -end threaded anni4 29, with a spring 30 coiled around the projecting bolt end, between the part 24 and the nut, whereby the parts 24 and QG are yieldably clamped together. The necessary lateral movement of the part 'with'respect to the part 24 for permitting the hereinbefore described action the lug 3l is obtained by having the bolt 25 passing loosely through the part 24.

- To the part`22 is anchored one end of a tension spring 33 having its'other end connected tothe part 26. This spring is ar ranged radially with respect to the pivot-al axis o1 the part L6, and it is pnt under tension when the latter is rotated to bring tho arm 5 into the side display positions as shown dotted in Fig. 1. A slight jar will disengage the lug 31, whereupon the spring 33 will bring the arm ing a corner to theleft, the signal arm will be thrown to'point to the left and'it remains longenough .inrthis position to warn. any approaching vehicle. When aturn to the right made, the signal arm will be thrown to point sidewise to the rightto warn pedes trians or ears approaching' from infront.

0n the parts 24 and 32 are cooperating stops tif-L and 35, respectively, by which the maximum throw of the signal arm is controlled. These stops also prevent the signal arm from colliding with the windshield o being thrown to the right. There are two stops 34 although one only is shown in Fig. '1, the position of the other one being covered by the wire 10.
It, will be noted that the inner end ot the shank 7 extends laterally with respect to 'the arm 5, this lateral portion being of such length that the arm clears the i-vindshield and comes in front thereof when it is swung over to point to the right shown dott-ed in Fig. l. The spring 33 is anchored to the laterally extending inner portion of the shank 7, and hence 1t is placed under tension when the arm 5 is swung in either direction to display position.
