Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented se ta, 191s.
. Applicationfiled March 20, 1916. Serial N 0. 85,453. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE L. HAW- KINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carson City, in the county of Ormsby and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in garment supporters.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of garment supporters and to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive garment supporter designed to be arranged at opposite sides of the body of a person'and adapted to be applied to the drawers for supporting the same from the waist band of the trousers to prevent the drawers from slipping down on the wearer without requiring them to be drawn so tightly at the waist as to be inconvenient and uncomfortable.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment supporter of this character which may be readily applied to and removed from the drawers and which will not tear, wear or otherwise injure the garments.
It is also the object of the invention to provide a garment supporter which will not be unsightly and which will be entirely concealed by a belt when the same is worn.
It is also the object of the invention to do away with the unsightly exposure of the drawers above the waist band of the trousers.
It is also the object of the invention, whether a belt is worn or not, that the support on the outside of the trousers is not unsightly or inconvenient.
\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts. hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure l is an elevation of a pair of garment supporters constructed in accordance with this' invention and shown applied to a pair of drawers and trousers,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the same,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the garment supporters. I
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the garment supporter comprises in its construction a trousers engaging hook 1 constructed of suitable resilient sheet metal and consisting of front and rear portions 2 and 3 connected together at the top and adapted to engage over the waist band 4 of a pair of trousers 5. The front portion or loop is relatively narrow and the rear portion or shank 3 is enlarged to form a back plate and it is provided at the lower end with a transverse slot or opening 6 in which is secured a strip of webbing 7 or other suitable flexible material looped at 8 to receive a front loop member 9. The fabric which has a loose depending portion carries a stud member, 10 mounted on a plate 11 having slots or openings 12 through which the webbing is passed. The loop member is provided with a contracted lower portion 13 to receive the stud which has a head 14 over which the fabric of the drawers 15 is drawn as'clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The loopmember 9 is bowed outwardly at 16 to facilitate the engagement of the stub with the contracted lower portion and to enable the stud to be readily disengaged from the same. The outer portion 2 of the trousers engaging hook 1 has its lower terminal 17 curved outwardly slightly and it is of a length less than the length of the loop 18 of the trousers so as to be entirely concealed when a belt is worn.-
The garment supporter may be constructed of any suitable material and it isadapted to be readily engaged with and disengaged from the drawers and trousers and it may be worn with great comfort and no inconvenience.
What is claimed is: A garment supporter including a waistband engaging member, a strip of webbing having one end bent back upon itself to provide a loop, the terminal of the loop bent and attached to the webbing to provide an attaching member, said attaching member In testimony whereof I aflix my signature secured to the wmstband engaging mem- 1n presence of two Witnesses.
her, a stud secured to the free lower end of v said webbing on one face thereofiand a stud THEODORL HAVKINS' loop engaging member having one end pivot- Witnesses:
ally secured in the loop in the upper end of GEO. A. COLE,
the Webbing,-as and for the purpose specified. NEIL J. MGGEE.
