Application filed To all whom zt may concern- SoHonNenxzo, of New York, in the county end State of New York, have invented o, new and useful FusoPlug, oi vwhich the .ioln lowing is o speoiiicotion.
l'lhe :nein vobject our' invention is to increase the efficiency end safety of ruse plugs especially those of the type here ing e screw shell body and. noirbrittle eonstruction.. l l
A 'feature of our invention is theprovision of exterior, insuletion, prefersbly in the form of e bend, opplied to the shell body just above the threaded portion end in edjoceney to theeover. T his bend is used so that no live port of the shell. of the plug will be exposed above the porcelain or the receptacle in 'which the plug' placed so that the hond of the operator will be provtected end yet the plug een be used with re cepteeles oi different depths Another feature of our invention is on src-restroiner spaced -from the Well of the shell end preferably this restreint is pro vided by an introverted or inwardly turned portion of the insulating non-brittle lining or" the shell body. This arrangement also provides space for soldering the fuse to the shell which is en importent advantage. l/Ve preferably provide a passage in seid lining, which passage n'iey be an inclosed opening or o slot and in either case the fuse passes through the opening and across the lining so that any are will be restrained on blowing the fuse.
Another feature is the use of means to prevent rotation of the center Contact so that the fuse Wire een not be twisted end in the preferred form We use on intermediete Washer With pointed 'portions to engoge'en. opening inthe shell.
Another feature is the use of en intermediate member to keep the outer end inner Washers spaced so that when the center contact is clenched o clear passage for rases will be provide( Another rem-.ure consists in makin@r ghe serial No. @,EL'ZS.
hond hold insulator in one piece.,
Another feature consists in melting the insuleting liningv and inner Washer in one piece end preferably providing gos outlets ot the bottoni of the Washer portion.
@ther features will be pointed out below. f in the drawings:

@or improved. fuse comprises e screw shell body member l; :i center Contact 2 et 'the .inner end of said shell, ond e fuse 3 soldered et one end to center Contact 2 and et its opposite end to the shell l. or' our fuse is that the screw shell l forms the freine worker body olf the structure on which ell of the other parts are mounted thus doing away with the usuel porcelain body upon which it has heretofore been customary to mount the screw shell and other ports'. The inner end of the screw shell l is mede with on end Well 4ihaving e. rectangular opening 5 therethrough end also formed with radially disposed, corrug'ntions extending' from near the periphery of the woll to the rectangular opening 5. Degronolly disposed within the rectangular opening' 5 is :in intermediate Washer 7. Upon the outside ot' washer Z and end Wall nl: is arranged un outer ,washer 8 formed With e. central perforation ythrough which the amok of center Contact 2 extends. Upon the inside of Washer 7 is arranged 'an 'inner washer LO formed with a .Centel perforainodieetion' hereinafter de- A peeulierity A tion 11 through which the shank of center contact 2 extends and with peripheral projections 12. The washer 10 occupies a position within the inner end of a tubular fiber lining 13 provided within screw shell 1 and the projections 12 not only center washer 10 and contact 2 but they provide passageways' 14 between them which communicate with the two spaces 15 at each side of washer 7. These two spaces 15 are open through the corrugation 6 to the outside atmosphere. The outside end oil the screw shell l carries a disk of mica 16 which closes the outer end of the interior fuse chamber within lining 13- and s'hell 1, so that when the fuse blows out the gases produced within the fuse chamber may escape in a staggered fashion through the ports 14, spaces 15 and corrugations 6. Thus the gases discharged from the yfuse plug when the fuse blows out are discharged from the plug at the inner end thereof into the receptacle shown at 17 in Fig. 3 thus minimizing fire hazard.
The center` contact 2 is made with an exterior head or flange 18 and a shank 19 whose inner end is provided with a pair o tangs 20. After the shank 19 of center contact 2 is passed through washer 8, washer 7 and washer 10, the tangs 20 are bent down or clenched onto washer 10 so as to cause said washer, washer 7 and washer 8 to be rigidly clamped between said tangs and ange 18 .in such manner as to hold the Washers against. relative displacement the intermediate washer spacinfr the other` two washers for the passage of. gas. At the same .time the engagement of vthe ends of' the washer 7 with the corners of the rectangular opening 5 serves to hold it and the other two washers against rotative ,displacement with. relation-to th'e screw shell 1.
A feature` of the invention consists in the employment ofl an introverted portion of las ' 60 to thescrew shell 1.
' with an out-turned lip 23 inside of whichlining 13 over, or through, which the Jr'use 3 extends, whereby any arc produced .when the fuse blows out is restrained, that is', when the fuse blows out the sparkwill not extend from center contact 2 to shell 1 .but will terminate or be extinguished by reason of the presence of said introverted portion. The indentation or introvertion provided in the lining 13 `is shown at 21 in Fig. 3 and the outer-edge of this indentation may be provided with a fuse 3 extends and this indentation provides convenient space for attaching the fuse to the shell.
As usual thefuse 3 is soldered at its inner end to center contact 2 and at its outer end The screw shell 1 is made at its outer end isarranged a ring 24 of insulating material such as fiber and on top of this lip 23 is seated the mica disk 16, the margin-"of said I1 may be made, 'end wall 10 having a central opening 11 ot22 .within which the the lip 23 and heldagainst rotative displace-` ment with relation thereto, by 'a metal ring 1 v26 having an outer mturned lip 25 restingv against the mica disk 16 and an inner` 111- turned lip 28 crimped around the .ring 24. By grasping the ring 26 between the thumb and oreinger the to screw it into or out of its receptacle,`the ring 26 and the micadisk serving as a cover and also as a hand hold. l
Another fea-ture of the invention consists in providing the outer end of the screw shell 1 with an encircling collar or band 2910i insulating material confined between a head 3() on screw shell 1 and ring 2,4.' ln grasping the ring 26 to screw the pluginto or out of its receptacle the thumb or forenger fuse plug may be rotated i would be liable to overlap ring 26and contact with the exterior of screw shell 1 were it not provided with the band 29 of insulating material adjacent to the hand hold and to ring 2li. |This band 29 may be 'of the diameter shown in Fig. l, or the exteriory diameter may be smaller as shown in Fig. 11.
In place of the two rings 24 and 29 Ywe .rings 24 and 2 9.
1f desired the lining for they screw shell as shown in Fig. 10, with an for' the shank of 'center contact 2, and made with marginal' ports 1.4L.
end .wall 10 takes the-place-of the separate piece washer 10.
