plunger, therein, 3 a piston rod, and 4 a cross beam, or lever. Connected to the opposite ends of said cross beam, or lever, 4, are two eccentric members 5 and 6, the eccentric disks 7 and 8-of which are secured to shafts 9 and 10. Mounted concentrically.
on said shafts 9 and 10, are gears 11 and 12, with which mesh two intermediate gears 13 and 14, which also mesh with each other. The axes of the gears 13 and 1 1 are connected, respectively, with the shafts 9 and 10 by means of links 15 and 16, while the axes, or shafts, of the gears 13 and 1 1 are connected to each other by means of a link 17 The link, or lever, 15, is extended beyond the link 17 as at 15 and has attached to its upper end an operating link 18.
By means of this operating link 18, the lever, or member 15, can be rocked to the position shown in dotted lines, which move the gears 13 and 14 into the positions indicated by the dot-dash circles. This movement also operates to rotate the gears 13, 14 and 12 and to move the eccentric member 6 into the position shown in dotted lines. The gear 11, however, and the eccentric member 5, are not moved. Also mounted on the shaft 9, is a pulley 19, adapted to be driven from any {Specification ofLettersiPa-tent.

By moving the controlling lever secured, thus making it possible to get a very I nice adjustment, or control movement, for a piston, plunger or other oscillating element. 7
'It will also be noted that this adjustment can be made very easily and without stopping or interfering with the operation of the device. 7
While I have shown and described my variable stroke mechanism as connected with a plunger, or piston, operating in a cylinder, it is'to be understood that it can be interposed in connection with the drive of any driven element, whereby to vary the stroke, or movement, thereof, and I do not, therefore, limit my invention to the particular embodiment thereof here shown for purposes of illustration except as Imay be limited by the hereto appended claims.
I claim: V 1. A variable stroke mechanism comprising in combination with an element to be moved, a pair of eccentrics with eccentric straps connected with said element, means for driving said eccentrics together, and means common to both for changing the relative positions of said eccentrics,w-hereby to vary the reciprocating movements of said eccentric straps relative to each other.

A variable stroke mechanism 'conrprising in combination with an element to be moved, a cross beam vor lever connected to" said element, a pair of eccentrics vvith eccentrio straps connected td the opposite ends of said cross beam, means for driving said eccentrics together, and means common to both for cl anging the relative positions or said eccentrics, whereby to vary the reciprocating movements of said eccentric straps relative to each other.
