Description
4-Penman. 'onnimialnnilnm or SEATTLE, WAsHInGToN.
To all whom z' may concern:` l j Beitknown that I, PERRY R. CHAMBER- LEN,a citizen of thefUnited States,- an'dresident of the city of Seattle, county ofKing,
and State of Washington, yhave Vinvented certain Vnew and useful Improvements 111' aspecification.'
My .invention relates to tireless cookers and consists of certain improvements/in the construction thereof which will be herein# after described and then particularly point cd outin' the claims. 5 i
In the accompanying drawings I have shownv my invention embodiedin the forms ofconstructionwhich are' nowm'ost preferred by me. l f Y f Figures l and 2 are vertical sections-taken Fireless Cookers, of which the. followingis through the assembled device, the two show=Y l modified' -constructions in the ing slightly base thereof. I
The type of lireless cooker herein shown is one which employs an 'i'nclosingf bellshaped heat-insulating container,` openat the bottom, which is placed over the Vessel containing the food `to be cooked and which employs a base for vthe 4reception of both the vessel containing the food and the bottom Y 1 of thef-inclosing bell.y VUpon this base a heat 30 radiating element may be placedyif desired, beneath the `food being cooked. Y Y
The bell 'may Vbe of Vany suitable construce tion and may be varied to'suit, vdesires and conditions.V As herein shown, it consists ofv two cylindrical drums placed one withinwthe other and havingv the space between them filledwith any suitable heat insulating mate# riali. They shape and sizeof this, as well vas Y the manner of its construction, may. be
varied as desired. The really essential'feature is that it be of a bellshape,-thatis,fa chamber in which one end is lacking, and be of `heatinsulating or retainingiconstruction. It shouldY also, for convenience and separable character.
The base contains two parts, the'outer member 2, which, in its general construction roughly resembles a pan having an upstanding peripheral or marginal flangeA 20, 21,
and an inner member forming a false bottom 3. The outer member 2 has its sides or marginal flange composed-of two upwardly ex-k tending sections 20 and 2l, joined together by a horizontally disposed section 22,"whi ch provides an inwardly projecting ledge at a Spcification of Letters Patent.

In the construction shown in Fig. l the falsebottom is provided with a downwardly maybe madeof any material found suitable.
extending -peripheral flange 38., which engages with the outer member 2 ofthe base, to support rthe false bottom. .This has ythe raised marginal zone 36, whichuis 'beneath the lower edge of the inclosing bell or drum.
rIhe central portion of: the fals'e'bottom -is depressed to receive the heating ldisk ll.
As show-n in both figures, theend surface' ofthe inelosing drum overlaps` the lledge22 of the outen pan, or base member, andthe marginal Zone 36 of the false bottom. The depth` ,of the flange 38x may beniade-such thatthe lower end of the drum l'is supportedin part, at least, upon the-marginal Zone ofthe false bottom, for upon the ytw'oac'orn- InFig. 2 I have" shown the outer-man: gina-l; Zone Aof the false .bottom-'asprovidedwitha slight circulary 'depression forming a groove 32,-fthis being preferably -placed at Vsuch point thatit comes immediately under theinner edge-ofi'the'w'all4 ofthe druin. 5` The object of'lthis depressionfis lto catch' and Y hold such moisture of condensation as ma tween the lower -end of thisy drum andthe surface ofthe false 'bottomf The construction' shown ini Fig. 2 has they outer base member, or pan, 2, constructed substantially as shown in Fig. 1'. The false bottom differs slightly in construction by having its central portion depressed so as.
to form a ledge37, uponwhich'the heatingy disk trests.l
WhileV the outer pan, or base member 2, A
y 10o 'be-'formed Vonthe innenwalll of this druir'iV andthus serve to better seal the 'joint be may be secured permanently together, de-
sired, I prefer thatwthey should'ib'e 'detachable, so that the corners and the narrow Y,
spaces between them may be readily accessible for cleaning. Y
An 'examination of 4the construction of the base shows that in all. 'cases la -dead air space is imposedV between the heating meniber 4 and the exterior. Also, that there is a dead airspace interposed rbetween the central space, or that which is immediately below the heating member', 4, and the outer edge, the same consisting of the annular chamber 50. These dead air spaces act as insulation to prevent escape ofthe heat. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, two dead air spaces, 51 and 52, are shown between the bottom of the heating disk 4 and the exterior air, or the object upon which'the cooker -is supported.`
The above construction is a thoroughly practical and economical one to manufacture and one which may be quickly and easily kept clean. The parts most likely to become dirtied are separable and lacking in crevices or sharp corners which are difficult to clean. It also provides efficient insulation to retain they heat.
What I claim as my invention is:
l. In a fireless cooker, in combination, a heat insulating bell, a bottom composed of an outer and an inner plate-like member, provided with engaging parts holding the bodies 4thereof separated and both having top surfaces extendingabout their peripheries and `together providing supporting surfaces for the lower end of the bell.
2. In a tireless cooker, in combination, a heat insulating bell, a bottom and a false bottom having peripheral flanges extending respectively upwardly and downwardly, the flange of the false bottom fitting `just within the flangeof the bottom and the flange of the bottom having a ledge on a level with the adjacentportion of the upperV surface ofthe false bottom, said ledge and the adj acent surface of the false bottom forming uplporting surfaces for the bottoml 0f the 3. bottom, said false bottom having a top surface extending about its periphery and to- `lgether with said ledge of the true lbot-tom "forniling bell supporting surfaces.
4. In a fireless cooker, in combination, a heat insulating bell, a base therefor compris ing 'a pan-like bottom member adapted to receive the lower end of'l'the bell withinits upstanding marginal flange and a false bottom having a downwardly extending'pei i l 1 l u n c ,c riplieral flange loosely fitting withinsaid vmarginal flange and also having 'a depressed central area, and a raised marginal'zone eX- teiiding underl andsuppoi'ting the end of said bell. y
5V. 'In a firelesscokei', in combination, a heat insulating bell, 'a base thereforcomprising a pan-like bottom member adapted to receive the lower end 'of the bell within its marginal flange and a false bottom loosely fitting within said flange and having a depending flange engaging the said bot y tom to forma dead air `insulating space between the two, and also having a .marginal zone raised above the main central area thereof, and extending under the edge of the bell.
6. In a fireless cooker, in combination, a base havingan upstanding marginal fiange,
aVV substantially level ledge intermediate the' upper and lower parts thereof, a removable false bottom having a marginal zone adapted for supporting engagement with the lower edge of an inverted bell," said Zone having a trough-like depression or groove positioned to be coveredby the innerpart of the lower end'of the bell when placed thereon, said false bottomv being depressed Y just within said groove but being at a level which is above the corresponding part of the bottom, and a bell-like cover adapted to have its lower end rest upon lthe marginal zone of the false bottom, and the ledge of the bottom.
