Be it known that we, JOHN GARLsoN and MATHIAS CARLsoiT, citizens of Finland, residing at Samuels, in the county of Bonner and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package- Ties; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in package ties and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character whereby the tying of knots in wrapping cord used for securing articles together and wrapping paper thereabout is entirely obviated and whereby the cord may be used on numerous occasions without mutilating the same.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a member having cord fastening means whereby the cord may be secured about the package without tearing the same, and further a clamping .member adapted to secure the cord to the member.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a package tie of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and. sold at a comparatively low cost.

With these and other'objects in view as will become more apparentas the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, and claimed.

For a complete understanding of our invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view ofa package tie constructed in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the clamping member in an open position.

Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the package tie.

Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional vie of the same. v

Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view, illustrating the manner of securing the cord to the member.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the

numeral-1 indicates an attaching membe constructed from metal or any other material suita'ble forth'e purpose and has secured to itstopfacean attaching'clip 2. The attachin'g clip-2 is secured-to the member 1 by meansof a rivet or like -fastener 3 and the clip: haseach end spaced from the member 1 as illustrated in Fig. 5 so as to receive the binding cordofa*package. I

A "'ubstantially S-shaped attaching clip 4 is secured to the bottom face of the member 1 by the rivet 8 and has each end spaced from the member 1 so as to receive and grip the cord. A clamping member 5 is hinged to one end of the. member 1 as illustrated at 6 and has formed on its free end a pair of spaced lugs 7 The clamping member 5 is adapted to be swung over the member 1 and thespaced lugs 7 engaged by a link 8 carried by one end of the member 1 so that the member 1 and clamping member 5 are firmly secured together. .The members 1 and 5 are of the same shape so as to provide a compact and convenient arrangement of parts.

In operation, a cord 9 is passed under one of the ends of the attaching clip 4 and then about a package 10. After the cord passes around the ends of the package 10, it is inserted under the other end of the at taching clip 4 and then passed under each end of the attaching clip 2. The other end of the cord is then passed around thesides of the box and over the member 1 and under one end of the attaching clamp 2 thus tightly securing the cord 9 about the package 10. The member 5 is then swung downwardly upon the member 1 and the link 8 placed over the lugs 7 which forces the ends of the attaching clip 2 downwardly against the member firmly securing the ends of the cord.

While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that minor. changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. I

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:

A package tie comprising a plate, an attaching clip secured to the bottom face. of said plate and adapted to receive the cord after being passed once about an article, a second attaching clip secured to the top face of the plate and adapted to receive the ends of the cord after being passed about, the package a SeCOnd'timB, and clamping means adapted to engage the second named clip to .compress the same against the member for on one face of said plate for gripping a cord, means on the other face of the plate "for gripping the cord a second time, and

means compressing the first named grip ping means.
