To all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that I, Gnonea' HERBERT DORMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Eveleth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Detonating Blasting- Fuse, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to burning fuses utilized for blasting purposes. An object of the invention is to rovide a fuse which has means at suitable mtervals in the body of same adapted to produce a detonation which serves as a warning of a proximate explosion to be caused by the burning of a se. With the above and other objects in view,
the nature of which will more fully appear as the desgription Iproceeds, the invention consists in the nove construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming partof the ap lication, similar characters of reference in cats corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is an elevation of a segment of a fuse embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through same.
A great many lives are lost every year, and man permanently injured, by premature exp oslons, due 1n some cases to too rapid burning of the fuse but more often to the very poor conception the average person has of the period of time in one and Specification of Letters rum.

one-half minutes. This is the time it takes a standard make of fuse to burn three feet, the length most Igenerally used. To obviate such accidents provide a fuse which has at intervals of three feet a detonating seceffect of the atmosphere by the material which houses the core.
Generally the detonating section will be placed one foot from the cap which sets off the charge, therefore there will be two feet of fuse ahead of the detonating section, and in consequence when the detonating section 3 explodes it will give warnin that the charge is going to be red in onealf minute, or'that the fire in the fuse is within one foot of the cap which will .set off the charge.
Thewarning caused by the exploslon of the detonating section 3 will give notice of the shortest length of time one has to reach a place of safety.
claim:
1. As an article of manufacture, a burning blasting fuse having detonating sections therein at suitable intervals adapted serve as a warnin of the proximate explosion of the blast. p
2. As an article of manufacture, a burning fuse for blasting purposes having detonating sections at intervals of about three feet. I
GEORGE HERBERT DORMER,
