To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, CHARLES S'r oHnL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the cityand county of San Francisco and State of California, hareinvented new and useful Improvements in Feeding-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to 'a' feeding table for re-cut band saws. r
The object of the present invention is'to provide a simple, compact, easily operated ing drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the machine. Fig. 2 1sa detailside elevation of the top guide, the vlew being taken on 11116 2-2 of Fig. 1'. Fig. 8 is a detail side elevation of the idler sprocket 14.

. Referring to the drawings in detail, particularly Fig. 1, A indicates a feeding table in one end of which isjournaled a driving shaft 2. This shaft is supported on top of the table while the secondary driving shaft 3 is journaled below the table. Power is transmitted to the shaft 2 through a pulley 4 and clu'tch 5 which may be thrown into or out of engagement by a shifting lever 6. Power is in turn transmltted to the secondary driving'shaft through a chaln drive 7.
Mounted on one end of the secondary shaft is a friction clutch 8 which isnormally held in driving engagement by spring 9 andcarried by said friction clutch is a sprocket gear 10 which carries an endless feeding chain 11. This chain runs on a plane parallel with the table surface and is'provided with a plurality of feeding lugs 12 which pass through a slot 13 formed in the table.
Mounted on one side of the chain 11 which will hereinafter be known as the primary feed, is a vertically disposed guiding plate 16. The forward end of this plate is turned at right angles as at 17, and the plate as a whole is adapted to be adjusted to and away from the primary feed and also to and away from main guiding plate 18. The adjustment of the guiding plate consisting of the sections 16 and 17 is accomplished in the following manner:
Slidably mounted inslots 19 formed on the sides of the table is a pair of adjusting blocks 15. Extending through each block in a direction'parallel with the plate 16 is a screw shaft 20. Turning movement of this shaftby means of a hand-wheel 21 causes the blocks to move endwise and thereby permits the plate section 17 to be moved to or away from thefmain guide 18. Extending through each block at right angles to the screw shaft 17 is a screw shaft 22, the inner "ends of which are journaled in bearings 23 formed on the rear side of plate 16. Secured on the inner end of each screw shaft 22 is a sprocket gear 1a and passing over said sp'rockets'is an endless chain 24. Turning movement of one of the shafts 22 by means of a hand-wheel 25 transmits movement through the chain 24 and the sprockets to turn the opposite screw shaft 22. This causes the plate section 16 to move to or away from the primary feed and therefore permits boX ends or blocks such as shown at 26 to be adjusted endwise with relation to journaled at one end in bearings 34 carried thickness.
by the guide rails 29, and extend through lugs carried by the frames 27, it can readily be seen that endwise movement is imparted to permit the frames 27 carrying the main guiding plate 18 to be adjusted with relation to the uiding plate 1-7. The 'necessity'of adjustab y mounting the plates 17-18 is due to the fact that the band saw shown at 36 in Fig. '10, remains in a fixed position, and it is also due to the fact that the blocks 26 to be re-cut often vary in should be in exact alinement with the saw,
hencethe necessity of adjusting both plates. The blocks when placed upon the table against the guide plate 16 are movedin the direction of arrow a by means of the primary feed 13. 'Their forward movement is however stopped .by' the guiding plate 18 and they are here removed one by one in successive order by a secondary feed com prising an endless sprocket chain 38 carrying lugs 39 engageable with each individual block. The chain 38 is carried by a pair of idlers 4O journaled on the rear side of the main guiding block 18 and also by a driving sprocket 41 wh ch 1s secured upon a vertically disposed shaft 42 suitably journaled in the table and driven from the secondary shaft 3 throu h a pair of bevel gears 43, see Fig. 8. A i clutch 8 previously described is here also employed for purposes to be hereinafter described.
In view of the fact that the idlers are carried by the main plate '18, it canv readily be seen that it is necessary to take up slack in the chain 38 when the position of" plate 18 is changed. This is due to the fact that the shaft 42 carrying the driving sprocket 41 remains stationary. The outer end of shaft 30is-therefore screw-threaded as at 44 and extends through lugs 45 formed on the frame, which is adjustably mountedon the rear side of the plate 18. Turning movementof shaft 30 when the plate 18 is adjusted will therefore simultaneously move the adjustable frame carryingthe idler 40, thereby taking up or giving out slack to chain 38 when adjustment is being made.
The'p'late 18' also serves as a support for a top guide generally indicated at this guide being adjustably mounted upon a pair of rods 51i'and it is adapted to be secured in anyadjusted position by a pair of set screws 52. i
In operationjitis only necessary to place the box endsor; blocks 26 in the position discharged in any suitable manner.

connecting the latter to the first screw threaded member whereby on the adjust ment of the plate the specified sprocket will also be adjusted to maintain an operative tension on the chain, and a fixed drive sprocket relative to which the plate is movable.

In a feeding table, a main guide plate, a feeding chain passing longitudinallyover the plate, a second guide plate arranged at an angle in front of the main guide plate and having its inner end deflected to lie parallel with said main plate for defining a path therebetween, and a secondfeed chain operating across the defined path for feed ing material along the second guide plate against the main guide plate.

In a feeding table, a main guide plate, a feeding chain passing longitudinally over the plate, a second guide plate arranged at an angle in front of the main guide plate and having its inner end deflected to lie parallel with said main plate for defining a path therebetween, a second feed chain operating across the defined path for feeding material along the second guide plate against the main guide plate, screw threaded members carried by the second guide plate, fixed nuts through Which the threaded members operate for adjusting the second guide plate toward and from the second feed chain, and transmission means connecting the threaded members whereby rotation of one will effect rotation of the other for evenly adjusting the second guide plate.

In a feeding table, a main guide plate, a feeding chain passing longitudinally over the plate, a second guide plate arranged at an angle in front of the main guide plate and having its inner end deflected to lie parallel with said main plate for defining a path therebetween, and a top guide carried by one of the guide plates over the defined path between the main guide plate and the deflected end of the second guide plate.
