ADJUSTABLE minnow-SHADE SUPPORT.
Application filed January 29, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OscAR- G. SIMMONS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamlin, in the county of Jones and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Window-Shade Support, (Case A,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a support for window shades, one of its objects being to provide a device of this character which can be applied readily to a window and which has means whereby window shades can be held at any desired elevation.
A further object is to provide simple and efiicient means for securing the shade roller at any point to which it may be adjusted.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device in position upona window casing and supporting a shade;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on line 22 of F ig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference A designates a window casing containing an upper sash B and a lower sash C. Secured to the inner face of the casing A at each side of the casing is a guide strip 1 having side flanges 2 the free longitudinal edges of which are inturned as indicated at 3 thus to form a channel which is open at its upper end. The two guide strips 1 are parallel and slidably mounted within the channel formed by each of the guide strips is a slide 4. The two slides are connected at their lower ends by a cross strip 5 which Specification of Letters Patent.

extends across the window opening and is offset near its ends to clear the inner flanges of the guide strips. Another cross strip 6 may connect the slides at intermediate points. Carried by the upper end portions of the slides are brackets 7 which can be of the usual form and which are adapted to be engaged by the end portions of a shade roller, the roller and the shade thereon being indicated generally at 8 in Fig. 1. Hooks 9 or the like may be extended from the upper end portions of the slides 4 for supporting a curtain pole or the like.
Each of the slides 4 is provided, between its ends, with an outstanding bolt 10 which extends through the opening between the inturned portions 3 of the flanges 2 and also extends through a clamping plate 11 preferably formed of spring metal and which bears upon said inturned portions 3. A thumb nut 12 or the like engages the projecting portion of the bolt and by tigthening this nut on the clamping plate 11, said plate will be caused to bind on the inturned portions .3 of the strips 1 and thus hold the slide 4 against movement.
It will be obvious that by loosening the two thumb nuts 12 the slide 4: and the connecting strips 5 and 6 can be moved upwardly or downwardly relative to the guide strips 1 thus to bring the shade roller toany elevation and after the desired adjustment has been obtained the parts can be secured against further movement by tightening the nuts 12 on the bolts 10. By connecting the slides through the cross strips 5 and 6 a strong but light frame is produced and the parts will not bind during adjustment.
What is claimed is The combination with flat, parallel guide strips lying in the same plane and each having its longitudinal edges inturned to form a channel, of flat slides mounted in the respective channels, cross strips secured at their ends to the slides and cooperating therewith to form a frame, said slides being extended upwardly beyond the cross strips, shade supporting brackets extending from the upper end portions of the slides and movable longitudinally within the channels, the cross strips being oii'set between their ends to permit the supported shade to hang In testimony that I claim the foregoing as between the guides and back of the cross my own, I have hereto affixed my signature strips, bolts carried by the slides, clamplng inthe presence of two Witnesses.
