BATH-TUB SEAT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, UDOLPH STRoLL, a

citizen of the United tates, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Seats, of which the following is a specification. 3 p

This invention relatesto seats designed for use in connection with bath tubs, and its object is to provide a simple, cheap and compact seat attachment of this kind which can bereadily attached to or removed from the tub, and which provides a safe and comfortable support for the body. 4

The invention also has; for its object to provide a seat attachment which can be washed and thus kept clean and sanitary at all times, and which is .strong and durable, and takes up but very little space in the tub, and which, when not in use can be hung up in the bath room out of the way.

With the objects stated in view, the invention consists in a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.

carrying out the invention I provide a flexible strap or band 10= and attach to the ends of the latter hooks which are designed to be engaged over the rolled rim 11 of the tub 12, so that the band extends across-the tub to form a seat for the occupant thereof. The band is made of canvas or other suitable textile material so that it may be washed when it becomes soiled and dirty, and thus be kept in a sanitary condition.

The hooks by which the band 10 is suspended transversely between the sides of the tub 12, comprise each, a pair of laterally spaced shanks 13 bent .in the direction of their length into a curve conforming substantially to the curvature of the rim 11 of the tub, the outer extremity of the shanksterminating in an upward bend so as to come beneath the rim as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The main portion of the shank is curved to the top and side of the rim and its inner end terminates at the junction of the rim and the side wall of the tub. The outer ends'of the shanks 13 are connected by a cross bar 14, and the inner ends are made with an inwardly directed side hook 15. Thepurpose of the cross "bar 14 is to provide a wide bearing surface and a firm support,

thereby preventing the hook from twisting sldewise and slipplng ofi the rim 11.

On the top side of the band 10 near the end, is sewed or otherwise secured a short,.

narrow strip 16 of canvas, leather orother suitable fabric or material, from one edgeof which extend a number of lateral strips 17 which are passed over the edge of the band 10 to come to the under side thereof when they are made fast by being sewed thereto. The strip 16 is located a short distance from the last mentioned edge of the band 10, and the portions of the strips 17 which extend from the band to said edge are not attached to the band but are left free thereof. The strip 16 is also not attached to the band 10 throughout its entire length, it being sewed thereto only at its ends, as shown at 18, and adjacent to the strips 17 as shown at 19) The strips 16 and 17 provide the means whereby the hook hereinbefore described is attached adjustably to the band 10, it being understood that such attaching strips are provided for each hook shank. The shank hook 15 extends transversely beneath the free portion of the strip 16 adjacent to the rearmost one of the strips 17 under which the shank seats. The hook 15 and the shank 13 may be slipped from under the strips 16 and 17 and moved toward the outer end of the band 10 and the shank then inserted beneath the next set of strips 17, with'the book 15 beneath a correspondmg free portion of the strip 16. This brings the device nearer: the end of the band 10 and consequently that portion of the band which extends across the tub may be adjusted to hang down in the tub at the desired height.

Each end of the band 10 is provided with the'hereinbefore described ad3ustable hook.

It will be noted that the attaching hooks spaced shanks curved in the direction of their length to fit over the rim of the tub, hooks projecting from the inner ends of the shanks, keeper strips on the band into which the hooks are insertible, and retaining strips on the band beneath which the shanks seat and are longitudinally slidable when the hooks are disengaged from their keeper strips.
