Be it known that I. AN'roN H. Rm'rnn Man, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and. State of Illinois have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needles for 'Jathing-Marhines. of which the following is a full, clear, and exaet speeifieatiou.

My inrention is eoneerned with soundreproduring machines. and more especially with a novel needle whieh is so eonstrurted as to he extremely durable.

is suitably fulerumed in bearings 15 on the edge of the sound box 16, and has its upper end connected to the center of the diaphragm 17, in the customary manner. This gives a very loud tone.

In case a softer tone is required, any suitable mounting of the needle for muting the needle may be employed.

While I have shown and described mv in vention as embodied in the form which I at present consider best adapted to carry out its purposes, it will he understood that it is eapalile of n'ioditieations and that I do not desire to be limited in the interpretation of the follrm'ing elaims except as ma be no ei'asitated by the state of the prior art.

What I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

l. A needle for sound reproducing instruments which consists of a bar of crystalline material, polygonal in cross section, and having Made-like points on one end formed by Channels placed in the sides of the hill. said ehannels eommeneiing at some distance from the end of the lHll and increasing in depth and width to said end, the Width. depth and shape of the channels at the end being surh as to form on the end a figure eonsisting of radiating pointed portions with the tips of the pointed portions located at the edges of the ha r.

2.
