Description
B. V. JACKSON.
CAR REPLACER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 2. 19m.
Patented June 18, 1918.
Quorum,
UNITED STATES PATENT GFFICE.
BURNICE V. JACKSON, OF BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
CAR-REPLACER.
Application filed March 2, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BURNICE V. JACKSON,
. a citizen of the United States, residing at at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a track section showing a pair of replacers thereon.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken through the track.
Figs. 3 and 4: are detail views.
In these views A indicates the rails and B the ties of a track. 1 indicates the replacer blocks which may be of any desired form. As shown the upper face of each block is curved longitudinally and transversely so that the wheels of the car will pass over the same on to the rails. As these blocks form no part of my invention they will not be further described. The blocks are held to the track by means of the clamp members 2 and each of these clamp members consist of a bar 3 having an upright part 4 at one end which is provided on its inner face with a lug 5 which is adapted to engage with an opening 6 in one of the side faces of the replacer blocks. The other end of the bar is provided with a small upright member 7 provided with a V-shaped slot 9. 10 is a small lever pivoted adjacent the small Specification of Letters latent.

upright and this lever is provided with a slot 11. 12 indicates a keeper also pivoted to the bar adjacent the lever 10 and adapted to engage with said lever for holding the same in contact with the base flange of the rall. 13 indicates a wedge member formed as shown in Fig. 3 and having one of its edges of V-shape to engage the slot 9 in the upright member 7. This wedge member is provided with a pin 14 secured to the wedge member by the flexible connection 15 and staple 16. The V-shaped edge of the wedge member is provided with a plurality of holes 17. The bar 3 is passed under the replacer block and the rail with the lug 5 in engagement with the hole in the block. The lever 10 is held in engagement with the flange of the rail by the keeper 12. The wedge member 13 is then placed between the upright 7 and the side of the rail with the V-shaped edge of the wedge member in engagement with the slot 9 of the upright. The wedge member is then tapped with a hammer so that the parts are firmly held in position. After the wedge member 13 is driven into place it may be held in position by placing the pin in one of the holes 17. It will thus be seen that the replacers are securely locked to the rails.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a replacer block, a clamping member comprising a bar having one end pivoted to the block and its other end passing under the rail, an upwardly extending projection on said last named end, means pivoted on said end for engaging the flange of the rail, and a wedge member adapted to be driven between the upwardly projecting end and the rail.
2. A device of the class described comprising a replacer block having a hole in one of its faces, a bar having an upwardly extending member at one end thereof, 9. lug there.
on engaging with the hole, an upwardly'exthe last mentioned upwardly extending part tending part on the other end of the bar havand the rail and having the beveled edge ening a slot therein, a lever pivoted to the bar gaging with the slot in said upwardly ex- 10 g and having a slot therein 01 engaging the tending part. 5 lower flange of the rail, a keeper pivoted to In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
1 said bar and engaging with said lever, and a I I wedge member adapted to be driven between BURNICE V. JACKSON.
