LADDER-RIGGING.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VICTOR E. BnnNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have. invented new and useful Improvements in Ladder-Rigging, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to ladder rigging, and more particularly to the class of ladder harness.

The primary obj ect' of the invention is the provision of a harness of this character wherein the strain upon the rungs of the ladder is eliminated as the said strain is directed upon the side rails of the ladder.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a harness of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that the block and tackle can be hung thereon in a convenient manner and thus take the strain. from the rung of the ladder while the block and tackle is in use.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a harness of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflieient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive in manufacture.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.

ignates the vertical ladders respectively which are of the ordinary well known construction, B, the suspended painters board or platform, C the tackle and D the block therefor which, together with the said tackle, serves to suspend the board or platform B as is shown in Fig. 1 of the drawmgs.

The ladder harness comprises a pair of hangers E, each being made in the form of a cap 10 cut and bent from a single blank into the shape of a box to detachably engage the upper end of the side rail of the ladder A as shown. Each cap 10 comprises an inner wall 2 whose upper portion is bent over into a top 3 and then down at the rear into a tongue 4- and finally up into a lip 5. The side portions of the inner wall are bent back to form the ends 6 of the box, and then inward to form the. rear wall thereof and lapped over each other at 7 between the tongue 4 and the lip 5thereby giving great strength to the parts of the box witliout necessarily employing any extraneous members. Said inner wall at its lower edge is formed with a loop extension 11 which tapers toward the free end thereof and is curled on itself, with the smaller end there of passed through a slot 12 formed in said extension near the wider end thereof, the free end of the extension 11 being bent over or inclined at 20 to lock in the slot 12. Loosely engaged with the curled portions of the extensions 11 are the terminal links 13 of a pair of chains 14: which are loosely connected with a single chain 15 suspended therefrom, and to this single chain is connected the block D of a tackle (l, which lat ter is connected with the board or platform B in the usual well known manner for the suspension thereof. It will be noted that the particular arrangement of the harness and the manner of connecting the same to the side rails of the ladder A eliminate any strain upon the cross rungs of the ladder.

In Fig. 6 there is shown a slight modification, wherein the hanger F is constructed identically with each hanger E, while connected with the loop extension 16 of said hanger F is the terminal link 17 of a single chain 18 to which is adapted to be connected the block of the tackle.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and ope at n of the her in described rigging will be readily apparent and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

In a ladder rigging including a platform and a block-and-tackle, the combination with a supporting chain attached to said block,

of a box-like cap for detachably engaging the side bar of the ladder, the same consisting of single blank of sheet metal bent to form an inner wall whose upper portion is *arried over to form the top and thence downward to form a tongue and finally upward to form a lip spaced from the tongue, the side portions of said inner wall being bent to form the ends of the box and then lapped between said tongue and lip to constitute the rear Wall 01 the boX, said inner Wall being also carried downward and formed into a loop extension and connections between said chain and loop.
