Be it known that I, HORATIO G. GILLMon, a citizen of the United States, residin at Washington, in the District of Colurn 121, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anticreepers for Rails, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel, simple and eflicient device,which when applied to the rail will prevent the longitudinal displacement or creeping thereof.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a device which may readily be applied with the tools usually in the hands of the men employed upon track and which while it may readily be removed with the same tools cannot he accidentally loosened or dis placed.
The device possesses other features of novelty and advantage, which, with the foregoing, will be obvious from the following de script-ion.
One form of embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in

In the form of the invention illustrated in the drawing, A repres i' its the rail resting upon ties or sleepers, portion of one of which is shown at B. he rail A is of the usual construction, comprising a head or tread portion C and a base flange D. Engaged with the rail A and the crosstie B is the anticreeper E.
The anticreeper E is provided. at one side of the rail with a jaw F, formed by overturning a portion G of the bar of which the anticieeper is constructed. At the other side of the rail A is a part H, which extends between and engages with the bottom of the rail head C and the top of the base flange D. Extending outwardly from the lower portion of the part H and over the top of the base flange D is a art I, from which depends a part K, whic connects the jaw F and the parts H and I beneath the base flange D and provides a tie engaging part be turned rail when of the anticreeper E engaging with the tie B. The upper portion of the part H may Or set as at L and there will then be exposed an end M facing outwardly from the rail.
In applyinv the anticreeper to the rail, E is placed with the part K transverse to the rail with. the jaw F engaging the rail base flan e D at one side of the rail, as illustrated in fig. The form and relation of the parts H and I are such. that, in thisposition of the device, I will engage with the top edge f the base flange D opposite the jaw F at the other side of the rail and the upper portion of the part H will just begin to engage the outer portion of the underside of the rail head C all as clearly shown in Fig. 3. -When the device i in this position, by striking the device at M the upper port-ion of the part H is driven toward the rail A, its top engaged and held by the under side of the rail head C. The part H is by this action caused to move angularly and at the same time move downwardly. This action causes the part L to fulcrum upon the upper edge of thebase flange D and to transmit to the jaw F a transverse pull through the connecting portion "K of E. It will thus be readily understood that when the device has in this manner been driven to the operative position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and t, the part H is firmly wedged in between the bottom of the head 0 and the top of the base D of the rail; the part I is pressed firmly down upon the top of the base flange D and the jaw F drawn transversely of the rail; so as to grip the base flange D atthat side of the rail. The rail A is in this manner firmly gripped by the antioreeper E and if longitudinal movement of the rail occurs the anticreeper IE will be carried forward with the rail until the part K comes into contact with the crosstie B. The engaging of the crosstie B by the part K of the anticreeper E will prevent further movement of the rail in relation to the tie B.
To remove the device from the rail, it will be necessary first to force the upper portion of the part H outward from the rail to the position device is in this position disengage the jaw F from the base flange l3" and remove the device from the rail.

The combination, with e crcsstie and a railroad rail having a head and e base flange, of en anticrecper provided with e we at one side of the rail, an arm adapted to en mosaics part engaged with the bottom of the head and top of the base flange of the rail and a transversepart projecting fromsaid part first named engaging-the cross tie and oneside only of the railbase flange, said anticreeper being locked in osition by pressure exerted upon the rail eadby said anticreeper intending to resume a position from which it was sprung.
12. The combination, with a crosstie and a railroad rail having a head and a base flange, of an anticreeper comprising a transverse bar provided with means for engaging one edge of a rail base flange and means operative upon the other end of said bar to subject said bar to a transverse pull and to lock said anticreeper in position'by an upward pressure upon the under side of the rail'head.
13. An antic-reaper, including a body member adapted to enga e a cross tie, a terminal gripping jaw adapte d to engage the rail base .and formed at one end with a jaw which is substantially horizontal and at the other end with a portion which engages only the upper surface of the base flange-and the under surface ofthe rail head opposite to said jaw.
15. An antioreeper formed of a single bar of metal bent to form a jaw'adapted to engage the rail base at one side of the rail, an
arm adapted to engage the top of the rail base at the opposite side of the rail and a rail head engaging member adapted to be forced, by transverse angular movement, into engagement with the rail head.
16. An anticrocper, comprising a member having ends thereof bent to form a body portion a jaw for engaging the top and bottom of the base flange at one side of the rail and a portion for engaging the under side of the head and the top of the base .iange at the other side of the rail, said rail head and base flange engaging portion being so disposed with relation to said body portion and jaw as to necessitate distortion thereof to allo-.. engagement with the rail head.
17.'A rail anchor, comprising a, member adapted to extend under the rail and. provided with portions adapted to engage the rail base at opposite sides of the rail, on of said base engaging portions being provided with a rail headengaging extension adapted to be forced transversely angularl into engagement with the vrail head where y thedevice is subjected to strain when applied.
18. A rail anchor, comprising a member adapted to engage the under side of the head and the upper surface of the base flange of the rail at one side thereof and extend under the rail and engage the edge of the base flange at the other side thereof which, when applied to said rail is subjected to a bending strain which produces a transverse gripping of the opposite sides of the rail base.
19. An anticreeper, comprising a member 20. A device for preventing the creeping of rails, comprising a bar of resilient metal provided at one end with a jaw and at the other end with a rail head and base flange engaging portion, said bar being formed with a bend whereby when the rail head and base flange engaging portion are forced in betw'een the head and base of the rail the jaw is drawn transversely of the rail. and the device caused to grip the rail.

A rail anchor, comprising a bar adapted to extend under the base flange of the rail and engage the edge of the same at one side and the upper surface of the same at the other side of the rail and provided with a re silient rail head engaging extension formed so as to be strained when forced into engage ment with the rail head.

A device for preventing the creeping of rails, comprising a bar adapted to extend under the base flange of the rail, formed with a jaw which engages the upper and under surface of the base flange at one side of the rail and an arm which engages the upper surface of the base flange at the other side of the rail and is provided witha resilient rail head engaging extension formed so that it is strained when. forced into engagement with the rail head.
23. In an anticreeper,a body having at one end a jaw arranged to engage the edge of the rail base at one side of the rail and at the other end a portion disposed so as to rigidly engage the upper surface of the base flange and the under surface of the red head when said portion is forcibly moved transversely angularly about-tho rail base and thereby retain the antlcreeper in position on the rail.
