Description
H. ROSENTHAL.
COAT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED lULY 27.1917- Patented June 11, 1918.
WITNESSES By @WYQ A TTORNE V8 messes:
HERMAN ROSENTHAL, OF N EW YORK, N. Y.
oonr-i-rnnenn.
Application filed l uly 27, 1917? Serial no. 183,068.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN RosENrHAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New .York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Coat-I-langer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
-Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to compress the members to form a small package for transportation; to reduce the cost of construction; and to provide means for hanging a coat and other garments on the same fixture.
Drawings.
Figure l is a side view of a coat hanger Description.
As seen in the drawings, the hanger embodies two arms 9, preferably constructed from thin metal and each provided with a perforation 10. Each arm 9 has a form plate 11, preferably integral with the arm 9. The plates 11, as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, are spatulate in form, so shaped by being bent diagonally across the arms 9, as shown best in Fig. 1. The widened ends of the plates 11 extend beyond the vertical extensions of the arms 9 and are slightly bent to provide shoulder forms 12.
To maintain the arms 9 in the outspread service position shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, abrace 13 is employed. The brace 13 has an elongated slot 14:, which has a runway for the guide rivets 15. The shanks of the rivets 15 pass through the slot 14 and into ofisets 16 or pass into the re cesses 17 and 18.
To suspend the hanger, a double hook 19 is employed. The hook 19 has a reduced loop 20 and an enlarged loop 21, the former of which is provided to pass through the perforations 10 when alined, and the larger loop extends over a hanging fixed pawl or other fixture.
/Vhen packed for traveling, the parts of the hanger are disposed in either of the positions shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the rivets 15 rest one in the ofiset 16 and the other in the adjacent recess 17.
In Fig. 4:, both rivets are shown as disposed in the recesses 18. This arrangement is preferred, as the total length of the package is not increased over the length of each of the arms 9.
When it is desired to place the hanger in service, the rivets 15 are removed from the recesses 18 or 17, as the case may be, and placed both in the offsets 16. The arms 9 are then disposed in position to aline the perforations 10. The smaller loop 20 of the hook 19 is then passed through the alined perforations, when it will be found that the arms 9 of the hanger together with the plates 11 and forms 12 thereof are in spread position such as shown in the drawings by Fig. 1.
It is evident that if desired, a second garment, such as a womans skirt or a mans trousers, may be suspended from the brace 13, provision being made for hanging devices in said garments that will fit within the recesses 17.
Claims.
1. A coat hanger comprising a plurality of detachably connected arms; a spreader slidably connected with both of said arms; and means for fixing the service relation of said arms, said means embodying a plurality of pins, one fixedly mounted on each of said arms midway the ends thereof, and means provided in the ends of said spreader for engaging said pins.
2. A coat hanger comprising a plurality of detachably connected arms; a spreader slidably connected with both of said arms; and means for fixing the service relation of said arms, said means embodying a slot disposed lengthwise of said spreader, said slot having offset ends and pins slidable in said slots for engaging said offset ends in separated relation.
3. A coat hanger comprising a plurality of arms, each having an integrally formed laterally extended shoulder form and means for uniting in serv'ce said arms, said means embodying a plurality of perforations, one formed in the end of each of said arms, a hook member for suspending said hanger,
Figs. 3 or In both, the hook 19 is removed from engagement with the arms 9. In
and a spreader movably attached to said arms for holding the same in outspread rela tion when said arms are connected by said hook. a
l. A coat hanger comprising a plurality of arms, each havin an integrally formed laterally extended for uniting in service said arms, said means embodying a plurality of perforations, one
10 formed in the end of each of said arms, a
hook member for suspending said hanger,
Gopies of this patent may be obtained for s oulder form; means and a spreader movably attached to said arms for holding the same in outspread relation when said arms are connected by said hook; and means for suspending an additional garment from said spreader, said means embodying an elongated slot formed therein, said slot having recesses pendently disposed from said slot for receiving attaching devices of said garment.
