ETHELL NOYES, OF KENSING'ION, LONDON, ENGLAND.
HAIR-CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 30, 1915. Serial No. 64,279.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ETHELL NOYES, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland residing at 18 Maclise road, Kensington, in the county of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Hair-Clasps, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention rifiates to hair clasps. The object of this invention is to provide an improved clasp.
A clasp made in accordance with this.
invention comprises a curved plate, a flat extensile member, means for pivotally attaching the extensile member to the curved plate so that the surface of one may lie on the surface of the other. Means for clasping the free end of the extensile member to the free end of the curved plate.
Figure 1 is a plan of a device showing one embodiment of the invention in its open positlon 'Fig. 2 is a side view; Fig. 3 is a plan showing the device in its a is a curved plate,
I; is a link pivotally connected to a,
0 is an elastic band attached At the free end of the band 0 is a link (Z provided with a hook e which is adapted to engage the slot f in the curved plate 11.
The clasp is intended to be used close to the head and in use the curved plate is passed through the hair with the convex surface away from the head, the free end of the elastic band is then hooked on to the free end of the curved plate so as to clasp the hair against the convex surface; whereby the hair at the back of the head is held sei: of El potent m be obtained for in cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. Q.
curely in place, the broad band of the elastic showing.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A hair clasp comprising a smooth elongated longitudinally curved plate adapted to be passed freely through the hair of the wearer, a link having top and bottom curved ends pivotally connected to the curved plate at right angles to the length of the plate, the plate being provided with an elongated slot at its free end at right-angles to the length of the plate, a single elongated elastic band at one end pivotally connected to the link, a link similar to the first mentioned link pivotally connected to the other end of the elastic band, a hook on the latter link including a free end or tongue offset from the link and extending lengthwisely of the band substantially centrally of the band and toward the plate and adapted to enter said slot, said hook being arranged on its link so as to enter the slot without passin over the free end of the plate only when the band is laid over the convex surface of the plate, sald elastic band being provided to cover the convex surface of the plate and bein wider than the plate, so that when said hoo is engaged in said slot the opposite longitudinal marginal portions of the band project substantially evenly beyond the opposite longitudinal edges of the plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ETHELL NOYES.
