Be it known that I, WILLIs I-I GILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grandview, in the county of Yakima and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Spray-Pole, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptlon. I
My invention relates to a spray pole used for spraying trees. An object of the inven tion is to provide a pole which can be turned without turning the hose leading to the nozzle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pole which can be manipulated from a distance of about six to eight feet from the nozzle.
With the above and other objects in view, the nature of which will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of the application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spray pole embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the pole turned through an angle of 180 without turning the hose;
Fig. 3'is a vertical section through the pole; and 7 Fig. f is a horizontal section on line H, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 5 is a hose which is connected by a valve 6 to a tubular spray pole 7. A sleeve 8 is fitted tightly on to the upper part of the pole. The sleeve has a reduced threaded portion 9 at its upper end on to which a cap 10 is threaded over the end of the pole 7. A cup 11 is provided within the cap 10 at the top of same. Said cup 11 is preferably semispherical and provided with an extension 12 of angular cross section above the cap 10, so as not to inter fere with the relative rotation of the two, On the angular portion of the extension 12 a disk 13 is fitted so as to revolve the cup. This disk has a marginal flange 14 which forms a ferrule to engage a tubular rod 15 and which houses the cap, sleeve and the major part of the spray pole 7. The lower end of the tubular rod is also provided with a ferrule 16 which merges with a disk 17 free to revolve on the pole 7. i This lower disk centers the lower end of the housing 15 'on the pole.

fluid discharged from the extension 12 is deviated by the tip 19 of the nozzle. The tip 19 is retained in the nozzle by a threaded cap 20.
The liquid supplied by the hose to the pole 7 enters the cap 10. The flow from the pole to the nozzle is checked by the cup 11. The chamber formed by the cap serves as a reservoir, which facilitates a more uniform distribution of the liquid to the nozzle 18. By turning the rod or housing 15 the cup and, therefore, the nozzle are turned on the cap 10 without imparting any rotary movement to the pole 7 and, therefore, to the hose 5. The large contacting surfaces of the cup and cap prevent any leakage between them.
. Furthermore, there is a slightly higher pressure on the cup due to the difference in diameters between the extension and the pole end entering the cap.
The rod 7 is provided with a shoulder 21 which is adapted to rest on the disk 17 of the ferrule 16 whereby the hose can be dragged through the medium of the housing. The pole 7 has also a handle 22, preferably interposed in proximity to the lower end of the housing, whereby the housing and rod can be turned relative to one another without danger of turning the pole with the housing.
I claim:
1. In combination, a spray pole, a chambered member at the end of said pole, a nozzle connected to said chambered member and disposed obliquely of same, and a tubular member housing said chambered member and pole and connected to said nOZZle to revolve therewith, whereby said nozzle may berevolved by manipulating the lower end of said tubular member.
2. In combination with a spray pole, a sleeve fitting tightly to the upper end of said pole, a cap threaded on to said sleeve over an end of the pole, a cup in said cap having an extension out of said cap, said cup being revoluble in said cap, a tubular member housing the cap, sleeve and the major part of said pole, means connecting said tubular member to the extension of the cup so as to revolve the same, and a nozzle connected to the extension and constrained to revolve therewith.
3. In combination, a spray pole, a sleeve fitted tightly onto the pole in proximity of its upper end, a cap threaded to said sleeve over an end of the pole, a cup in said cap having an extension out of the cap, said extension alining with the pole, said cup being revoluble in said cap, a tubular member housing the cap, sleeve and the major part of the pole, said extension above said cap being of angular cross section, a ferrule at the upper end of said tubular member engaging the extension so as to revolve the same, a ferrule at the lower end of said tubular member adapted to center said tubular memher on the pole, and a nozzle secured to the extension of the cup so as to revolve therewith, said nozzle being fitted obliquely on the said extension so as to deviatethe flow from the extension to the nozzle substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In combination, a spray pole, a tubular member revolubly mounted on the pole, and a nozzle revoluble with the tubular member and engaging the spray pole.
