DISPLAY-CARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented J une 4L, 1918.
Application led March 17, 1917. Serial No. 155,565.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SHELBY C. SPARKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cards, of which the following is a full and exact specioation.
The present invention relates to display cards for holding and displaying articles or packages, and one of the objects in view is to provide a display card having a tongue cut from the material of the card in such a manner as to form a retaining finger for the article or package by engagement with its label or wrapper, and at the same time form an opening or window for displaying the printed matter upon said label or wrapper on the opposite face of the card, whereby a check or comparison may be made as between such printed matter and such printed matter as may be displayed upon the card itself.
It is also an object to provide a card of this character in which the tongue or retaining finger is cut in a fashion adapted to produce an opening or window in the form of an index or pointer designed to arrest attention and at the same time designate the printed matter intended to be compared with that displayed through said window or opening.
With these general objects in view the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a form of embodiment of the improvements, after which those features deemed to be novel will be set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a face view of a display card and package arranged and constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same;
Figs. 3 and 4 are sectional views, showing sections taken on the lines III-III and IV-IV, respectively, of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view, on a reduced scale, showing the card with the package removed.
Referring to the drawing in detail, this nection with the card, the latter is slit in a manner to form a tongue 6, preferably of pointed outline, as shown, for adapting the tongue to be readily inserted beneath a printed device, such as the label or wrapper 8 of a package of articles or samples 10 to be mounted upon the card. Cutting out the tongue in this manner forms a window 12 in ,the card, and this window is utilized for displaying the printed matter, as 14, of said label or wrapper upon the opposite face of the card. This printed matter let may be the trade-mark or name of the manufacturer of the goods, as shown, and the outline of the window is such as to constitute an index or pointer (see Fig. 2) pointing in line with the same trademark or name represented on the corresponding face of the card as at 16; and on this side of the card is also printed some form of caution, as at 18, suggesting that a comparison be made of the names or trade- marks 14 and 16 for the purpose of ascertaining that these are the same, so that no substitution may be made, such as might take place if the buyer were guided solely by the printed matter appearing on the card itself.
It will thus be apparent that a neat and simple display card arrangement is provided by merely cutting the card to form the retaining finger by which the package may be conveniently attached to the card in position to display the printed matter on the wrapper or label through the window left by the cutting out of said finger; and the shape or outline of said window produces a pointer of such a character as to attract the attention and invite comparison of the name or mark on the wrapper with that which is pointed out on the corresponding face of the card. The inscription printed below the window also invites such comparison' so that in addition to forming a support for the article and attaching it to the card, the construction and arrangement are suoli as to guard against substitution or fraud in the handling of the gools with which the display card is to be use While the foregoing illustrates the preferred form of embodiment of the improvements, the right is reserved to such formal changes or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is:
1. An article-holding display card comprising, in combination, a card, an article provided with aprinted device adapted to ibe said article on one face of the card, "said,
slit portion also forming a Window whereby the printed matter on said device :is displayed upon the opposite face of the card.
2. An article-holding display card coinprising, in combination7 a card, lan article provided with a rinted device adapted tobe attached to sai( card, said card having a portion thereof Vslit to form a pointed fiinger foihengagement with 'saidlprinted device to support said article on one face of the card, said slit 1pontion also forming a Window in the form of a pointer or index through `Whichlthe printed matter on said device is displayed upon the opposite face of the card,
said opposite face of the card having print- Genies oftniapatetmay/be obtained'forve cents each, lby addressing `theGonumissiuner 'di Patents, Wuliinttonm. 0.
