To all 'whom t may concern.' y n *I Be it knownsthat I, `THOMAS L. FAwIoK, a citizen of the United States `of America, and a resident of Waterloo', Blackhawk county, Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Tube Boilers, of which the following is'a specification.

2 is a cross section of said furnace taken on the broken line 2-2 of said Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow, the boiler being shown in elevation taken at an angle of ninety degrees from that shown in Fig. 1; F ig. 3 is an enlarged detail section across some of the boiler-tubes of a modified form, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a part of one of the boiler-tubes, with 1 a part broken away to display the method of mounting a head of said tube therein.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Each tube l is drawn seamless steel tubing and longitudinally corrugated by a plurality of corrugations 2 which may be relatively low as shown, or given any desired altitude or angularity. These tubes are placed in parallel relation to each other, with relatively narrow interspaces, and may be positioned in any desired manner, but preferably set upright, or slightly tilted as illustrated, and may be supported in any way, without departing from the principle of my invention.
I prefer, however, to provide a relatively large number of like rectangular plates 4, having pluralities of convoluted slots to correspond with the number of water-tubes used, the tubes being tightly tted into the slots in said plates, the plates regularly Specification of Letters Patent. v

The ends of the plates 4 are in contact with and are tightly secured between plates 12 mounted on the inner opposite walls of the furnace by means of bolts 13 which latter resist the outward thrust caused by high-pressure steam upon the tubes 1. ginning of the operation. This makes the boiler very suitable for use in producing steam rapidly to actuate motors of vehicles.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

plurality of spaced transverse plates having orifices in which said tubes are fitted, longitudinal plates engaged between yopposite 20 ends of said plurality of plates parallel to the l'attened sides of said water-tubes and the walls of said chamber, and bolts passed Vthrough said chamber walls and securing said longitudinal ,plates upon said transverse plates, the walls and longitudinal plates acting as abutments for the transverse plates and Vinclosed dat-tened water-tubes.
