I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented lVIay 14, 1918.
Application filed January 9, 1918. Serial No. 211,027.
- Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE Scrmonnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berkeley, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Ink-Bottles; and I do hereby declare the.
following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in ink bottles for commercial use, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character, whereby it may be positioned or laid upon its side to produce an eflicient fountain ink well that will at all times feed ink to the fountain to keep the same full.
Another object of this invention is the provision of one of the walls of the'bottle inclined in the direction of the neck or fountain, so that the entire amount of ink in the body will drain into the fountain as it is used.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a cap adapted to be secured to the neck or fountain, so as to close the same when desired, thereby producing a device which can be carried While traveling without the danger of the ink spilling.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a fountain ink bottle of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view, which will become more apparent as the de scription proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement-of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fountain ink bottle constructed inaccordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, illustrated side, so that the ink w' 1 pass into the neck "i or fountain, and
ositioned upon its Fig. 3 is a sectional view, taken on the line 3.3 of Fig. 2.
Referring in detail to the drawin the numeral 1 indicates the body of -the which is of substantially rectangular shape in formation and preferably constructed from glass, but may be constructed from any other material suitable for the purpose. The body 1 consists of a bottom wall 2, having side walls 3, and a top inclined wall t that terminates into a neck 5. The neck 5 is also formed upon one of the side walls 3, which ttle is of an increased thickness over the other side wall and inclined as shown at 3', so
that the contents of the body will flow into the neck when positioned upon its side, as
illustrated in Fig. 2, the side wall of in creased thickness acting'as a support to the body. A portion of the neck 5, which is formed inte ally with the inclined top wall 4 of the b0 y, is of increased thickness, as illustrated at 6, and provided with an opening 7 extending therethrough and in communication with the bore of the neck, which opening is adapted to permit the pen or like lnstrument to be inserted into the neck,
which forms a fountain to the body, so that the pen or instrument may receive ink. The
outer end of the neck 5 is closed by a cork or stopper 8 of any desired construction after the body has been filled when in an upright position.
The neck or fountain 5 is provided with screw threads 9, adjmnt its formation to the body, and threaded thereon is a cap 10 that is adapted to fit over the neck or fountain to close the opening 7, and has its open end threaded for cooperation with the threads 9 upon the neck or fountain.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
it will be noted that an ink bottle has been mercial use, that is one-whereby the ink may be sold in the bottle and then be used as a fountain ink well by the purchaser. It will also be noted that this ink bottle can be readily carried from one point to another without danger of the ink spilling there from.
While I have shown and described the provided which can be readily used for compreferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made witmiut departing tially rectangular bodyhaving one side Waii from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. 7
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new is:
1. A fountain ink bottle comprising a substantially rectangular body having one side Wall of increased thickness and inclined to form a support for the body when posi-.
neeenae of increased thickness and inclined upon its inner face and adapted to support the body When upon its side, said body having an inclined top wall, a neck formed on said body and having a thickened portion provided With an opening to receive a pen and an opening in the end thereof, a cork closing the end opening of said neck, screw threads on said neck, and a screw threaded cap threaded to the neck for closing the firstnamed opening.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
