Our invention aims to provide a sim le and inexpensive, yet a highly elcient, urable and easy running bearing for the bobbins of spinning frames and analogous machines, the device being so constructed as to form a mounting for the lower end of'an and the upper end of a' lower bobbin.y
With the foregoing general object in view, the invention resides 1n the novel features of construction to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which:
Figure. 1 is a side elevation of the invention applied, the bobbin being in operative position;
Fig. 2 is' a vertical longitudinal section through theparts seen in Fig. 1; and
Fi 3 is a side elevation partly in section 'showlng the manner in which the bobbin is removed.
In the drawing above briefiy described,
the numeral '1 designatesa cylindrical head of uniform size throughout, the lower end 2 and 3 are turned from a single length off metal and the lower end portion f the neck y 3i is externally threaded for reception in a nut 5 which coacts with the head 1 in clamping the device in place, `after said neck'has been passed` lthrough an opening in the frame 6.
The upper end of the heard 1 is recessed to -form a circular socket 7 havinga ball race 8 at its bottom, and said head and the neck 2 are formed with a central vertical bore 9 whose lower end is closed, while its upper end opens into the socket. .A cylindrical plug 10 above the head 1 is adapted for reception in the lower end of the bobbin as shown clearly in Fig. 2, said plug having ay bobbin supporting ange 11, a depending guard flange 12 surrounding the upper end of the head 1, and an integral central cone 13 received in the socket 7 and resting on ball bearings 14 which arereceived in the race 8.
The pointed lower end of the cone l13 is provided with an integral spindle 15 whose lower end is pointed at 16 and rests upon the closed lower end of the bore 9. ABetween its ends, the spindle 15 -is provided with an annular groove 17 and the inner end of a screw4 18 is received in said oove to prevent removal of the spindle gom the bore, said screw being threaded through the neck 2 as seen in Fig. 2.
On spinning frames and'similar machines, three vertically spaced series of bobbins are usually provided, and the present invention is adapted for use between the upper and -lower series and the central series, the cones the upper series of bobbins stems such as 3 and cones 4 are provided without the additional features of the bearing, while for the lower end of the lower series of bobbins, all features of the device are used except the stems and Acones in question. The device is obviously of #simple and inexpensive nature, yet it pro'- 7 vides an eiiicient anti-friction bearing for the-bobbins and permits quick applicationY and removal of the Llatter as occasion may demand. Since probably the best results are obtained from the'exact features shown and described, these features are preferably employed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous mmor changes may well be made.'
We claim: y A bobbin bearing comprising a cylindricalmetal head havin a cylindrical centralneck formed integra y with its lower end, Vthe lower end of said neck having formed integrally therewith a central vertical bearing stem, the upper end of said head having a circular socket formed at yits bottom wit a ball race, said head and neck having a eentral bore closed at its lower end and o ening at its upper end into said socket, bal bear-- ings in said race, a metal plug for reception in vthe bobbin, a cone integral with said plug and received in seid y:sockel: on said ball bear'- ings, a spindle integral with said cone and received in said bore said spindle having a pointed lower end resting on the closed and a nut thfeaded on said stemy for eoecnion with seid head in seeming the device in place, l v
