To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. HAYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hazelton, in the county of Barber and State of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Manifolds for Explosive-Engines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in manifolds for explosive engines.
The object of my invention is to provide novel means for heating and vaporizing fuel for an explosive engine which will afford a maximum of etliciency to the fuel, which will afford economy in the consumption of fuel, which is simple in construction and cheap to manufacture.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention,

Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates the body of an ordinary four cylinder explosive engine provided with the usual intake ports 2 and exhaust ports 3.
designates a manifold casing having a horizontal longitudinal partition 5, Fig. 3, which forms a compartment 6 having an inlet 7 for water and an outlet 8 for steam.

1 .2 designates a conductor having two branches 15 and 16 which respectively discharge into the chambers 10 and 13. A transverse partition 17 connects the conductor 1st and the partition 5, thereby forming two chambers 18 and 19.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 186,069.
A passage 20 connects with two inlet ports 21 and located at the outer sides of the chambers 10 and 13, said inlet ports com municating respectively with the two outer exhaust ports 3. The casing is provided with two inlet ports 23 and 2a which respec tively connect with the two inner exhaust ports 3.
Two passages disposed at opposite sides of the branch 15 and designated by 25 and 26 connect the passage 20 with the chamber 18. Two passages 27 and 28 disposed at opposite sides of the branch 16 connect the passage 20 with the chamber 19.
The casing a is provided with two outlet ports 29 and 30 respectively connecting with the two ports 2.
The casing is provided with an outlet port 31, Fig. 5, which communicates with the passage 20.
The casing t is provided with a passage 32 which discharges into the conductor 14 and into which discharges two carbureters 33 and 3a. A discharge conductor 35 connects with the outlet port 31. Alongside of the conductor 35 is a conductor 36 adapted to be heated by the conductor 35 and adapted to convey fuel oil. A conductor 37 dis charges into the conductor 36, and a conductor 38 connects the conductor 36 with the carburetor A conductor 39 is connected with the passage 32 and with the outlet 8.
A conductor 40 is connected with the carbureter 3% and is adapted to convey gasolene to said carbureter.
Bolts 1 1 secure the casing 4 to the engine 1. A conductor 42 discharges into the inlet 7 and is connected with a source of water supply.
In the operation of my invention, gasolene is permitted to enter the carburetor 3% through the conductor 40. The explosive mixture passes from the carbureter 34: through the passage 2, conductor 1%, and branches 15 and 16 into the chambers 10 and 13 and thence through the ports 29 and 30 into the four engine cylinders through the bifurcated ports 2. The exhaust from the engine cylinders passes through the ports 3, thence through the ports 21, 22, 23 and 24- into the passage 20 and chambers 18 and 19, and from the latter by the passages 25, 26. 27 and 28 into the passage 20. The exhaust gases pass from the passage 20 through the outlet 31 into the exhaust discharge conductor The exhaust gases in the passage 20, chambers 18 and 19 and passage 25, 26, Q7 and 2-8 heat the conductor land its branches l5 and the chambers 10 an 18, thereby highly heating the GKplOSl" charges which enter the chambers 10 and prior to passing through the pods 2 the engine cylinders.
