In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the 11111113111110 designates the body portion of the device which serves as a jaw or element of a clamp. Preferably formed integral with the body portion or jaw 10 is a Ushaped member or bracket 11, having an upper horizontal head 12, provided with a screw-threaded opening 13, receiving a clamping screw or bolt lt. This clamping screw is provided with a head 15, carrying a transverse pin 16. The jaw 10 and screw 14 coact as elements of a clamp. for holding a sleeve 17, adapted to fit within an opening 18 in the jaw 10, which opening is V-shaped in cross-section, as shown.
Preferably formed integral with the body portion or jaw 10 is a U-shaped portion 19, comprising arms 20 and 21. The arms 20 and 21 are rigidly connected with a handle 22. j
The forward end of the arm 21 is provided with a transverse.screw-threaded opening 23, for the receptionof a feed screw 24:, having a head 25, carrying a pin 26.
The U-shaped portion or member 19 is provided near its connection with the han-' dle-22 with an enlarged portion 27, the upper surface of which is flat and is provided with a longitudinally extending groove 28, for the reception of a cutting element or grinder 29. This cutting element may be longitudinally adjusted within the groove 28 and clamped in adjustment at a desired position by a bolt 30, having screw-threaded engagement with the portion 27'. The cutter 29 is provided with endor edge 31.
The numeral 32 designates a valve to be faced, having a beveled face 33. This valve is rigidly secured to a stem 34, inserted within and through the sleeve 17. It is obvious that the sleeve 17 may be longitudinally adjusted to be placed at a suitable distance from the valve, and that if the valve stem is not straight it will be detected upon being inserted within the sleeve. I contemplate using sleeves 17 of the same exterior diameter, but having openings or bores of different diameters for receiving a beveled cutting valve stems of difierent diameters. By this means the valve stem will. be retained in l0ng1tudina1 allnement with the feed screw 21. It is obvious that by turning the feed screw 24: the valve 32 will be moved into proper engagement with the cutting edge i the valve is arranged therein, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the entire apparatus may be horizontally or vertically disposed, and the free end of the stem or spindle 3a clamped within the jaws of a vise 35, whereby the valve is held stationary. then be rotated by turning the handle 22.
If desired the stem 34 may be inserted in a lathe or drill chuck, the valve 32 rotated, while the handle 22 is held stationary.
If desired, a crank may be secured to the valve stem, and the valve turned by this means while the device is held stationary.
It is obvious that the invention is in no sense restricted to the particularmanner in which it is operated, as the principle of operation is the same in each case.
lit is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
