To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that JULES D. BISOAYART and FERNAND CArLLnrnAU, citizens of the United States residin at Atlanta in the count Y of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Operating Switch-Buttons;
and they do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to'the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part 01": this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in electric light snap switches, the object in view being to produce a simple and eflicient device of this nature which may be readily attached to an electric switch button and comprises a gravity actuatedpawl carrying memberadapted to cause a ratchet wheel fixed to the button clutch to make a partial rotary movement.
The present invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the device applied to a switch button.
Fig. 2 is a detailed elevation of the inner face of the device, and
Fig. 3 is a central sectionalview through the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates a plate of any suitable material and provided with a circumferential flange B. Said plate is provided with an aperture O in which a pivotal pin D is mounted and upon which pin a ratchet wheel E is journaled. Said'wheel is provided with slots F adapted to receive lugs II of the button clutch member K, said lugs being passed through the slots and suitably clenched. Said button clutch member is provided with laterally extending fingers, designated respectively by letters I, K L and M, the said fingers being bent parallel to each other and spaced apart sufficiently to receivethe button 0. The finger K is provided with a lug K bent at right angles thereto and adapted to engage over the end of the button, and the finger L is provided with a similar lug L, designed to be bent at right angles over the opposite end of the button, therebyforming efiicient means for securely holding the device upon the switch button. Struck up from the said plate are lugs R and S which serve to retain the cylindrical outlined weighted member T in place between the flanges of the plate and which flanges partially cover and obscure the weight. Another lug, designated by letter Q, is struck up from the flange of the plate, and I designates a pawl which is provided with laterally extending pintles I pivotally mounted in apertures in the lug Q and an aperture in the plate, said pawl being adapted to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel. 7 i
In order to limit the outer throw of the pawl a lug G is struck up from the plate and is inwardly bent and is in the path of the pawl. A portion of the plate has a contracted extension A which is laterally bent and apertured -for the reception of the cord or chain J forming means whereby the plate may be tilted, it being noted that the point of connection of the cord or chain is at the end of the plate opposite the one to which the weight is connected, the parts being so adjusted that when the cord is pulled upon for the purpose of rocking the plate, the lat ter will return, through the revolutions of the plate to its normal position, as the cord or chain is released.
In operation the button clutch is fitted over the button and the lug bent to hold the same securely in place thereon. The normal position of the plate is shown in the drawings in which the weight will hold the plate in a vertical position. When it is desired to turn the switch, the operator, by pulling down upon the cord, will cause the plate to tilt and with it the pawl engaging one of the teeth of the ratchet wheel will cause the latter to be given a partial rotary movement and as the clutch is fixed to the ratchet wheel and the button fastened to the clutch, the button will be given a partial rotary movement sufficient to open or close the circuit of the lamp to which the switch is connected, When the cord orchain is re:

What we claim to be new is:
1. An attachment for buttons of snap switches, comprisingan elongated plate with a laterally extending circumferential flange about the marginal edge thereof, a lug struck up fromthe flange atone end of the plate and other lugsffrom the body of the mediate the flangesand engaging the said lugs, a ratchet wheel ournaled upon the plate, a button clutch member fastened to the ratchet wheel andhaving laterally extending parallel fingers for engaging, the
button of a switch, a pawl pivotally mounted upon the plate and engaging, the teeth of the ratchet wheel and a cord connected to the plate and opposite the weighted member.
2. An attachment for buttons of snap switches, comprisingv an elongated plate with a laterally extending circumferential flange about the marginal edge thereof, a
saidlugs, a ratchet wheel journaled upon the plate, a button clutch member fastened to the ratchet wheel and having laterally extending parallel fingers for engag ing the button of a switch, a pawl pivotally plate, a weighted member positioned inter- I mediate the flanges and engaging the said lugs and having slots therein on either side of its frictional point, a button clutch memher having laterally extending lugs bent at an angle and engaging said slots and provided with outwardly projecting lingers bent parallel to each other and provided with angled lugs for engagement with the edges of the switch button, a pawl pivotally mounted upon the plate and adapted to ongage the teeth of the ratchet wheel, and a. cord connected to a projecting portion of the plate, as set forth.
