Description

I. TOTH MILK BOILER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 7. I917.
Patented Apr. 30, 1918.
FIG.
ram ormon.
ecasna mean, an nin nrn'roia irnnns rnvanm.
-MEIIK-IBOIIIZER.
Specification of Lttcr s Paten c.
Application filed May 7, 1917. Serial No. 166,910.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, Jozsnr ToTH, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Ralphton, in the county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk- Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in milk boilers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a utensil adapted for boiling milk or eatables and provided with an arrangement for preventing the fluid from boiling over as well as permitting the froth and impurities floating thereon to be readily removed.
A further object of the device is the provision of a cooking utensil that is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and is adapted for the ready removal of any fluid therein without removing the solid contents of the boiler.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device partially broken away.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line III-III of Fig. 1.
Figs. 1 and 5 are detail sectional views taken upon lines IV-IV and V-V of Fig. 3.
In the preferable embodiment of the invention as best illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the device consists of a cylindrical cup or container 10 having a plurality of perforations or outlets 11 arranged equal distances from the top of the cup while a funnel-shaped flange 12 is arranged annularly of the cup secured thereto at a point beneath the outlets 11.
The upper portion of the cup 10 is positioned by this construction centrally within the flange 12 with the beaded rim 13 of the flange upon a level above the top of the cup while the bottom 14 of the flange 12 "converges downardly to its point of attachment with the cup 10, the lower edges 15 of the outlets 11 being in the same plane as the bottom line 16 of the upright wall 17 of the flange, which wall is parallel and concentric with respect to the cup 10.
Outwardly bent lips or spouts 18 are provided in the flange wall 17 adjacent any desired ones of the outlet openings 11, the flange bottom 14 having grooves as at 19, each communicating with one of the spouts 18 and terminating at an outwardly flared pouring portion 20 of the cup 10 having one of the outlets 11 arranged therein. A handle 21 is provided for the device projecting from the flange 12 thereof.
It will be understood that in operation, the milk or other fluid articles to be cooked or boiled are placed within the cup 10 and the latter associated with a heater in the usual manner, The boiling of the fluid within the cup 10 permits the impurities or scum which rise to the surface of the fluid to pass through the outlets 11 into the flange 12 while the pure fluid remains within the cup. The spouts 18 permit this scum to be readily poured out of the flange 12. When the scum is below the level of the outlets 11, the tilting of the device permits the scum to flow outwardly through the outlets 11, passing along the pouring portions 20 of the cup while the same is readily poured out of the flange 12 when desired. Any articles such as potatoes which are within the cup 10 will be unable to pass through the small outlets 11 and this will permit a slight draining of the cup 10 when such is found desirable during opera tion of the device. A cooking utensil of great utility is arranged which assists the operator in preparin a meal.
What I claim as n w is A cooking utensil including a cup-like member having a bottom and a substantially cylindrical side wall provided with a longitudinal spout-like outwardly directed offset extending from its rim to said bottom, said offset being flared laterally and upwardly with a vertical upper end por- 'tion having an opening therein, said cuplike member having ofl'set therefrom and rigidly connected therewith a short distance below its rim a horizontal annular member comprlsing an inclined portion and a vertical portion and forming an annular chamber to receive matter which may overfll arterrtcol Apr. 3th, ions.
flow from the cup-like member through said opening, the rim of said offset, annular member being in a horizontalplane above the horizontal plane of the rim of said cup-like member, said opening communioating With said chamber above the bottom thereof, and a pouring spout ofiset Gepies of this patent may be obtained for arranged contiguous to said spout-like oii'set of the cup-like member and extending across both i of said portions 01": the annular 10 member.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
