To all 'whom t may concern;
Be it known that I, MARSHALL T. GowER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, reference drawings, marked thereon, application.
This invention relates to improvements in valved faucets and is particularly designed as a faucet for tanks or receptacles used in the storage and transportation of fluids of all kinds especially gasolene, distillate, and the like. The now commonly used faucets very quicklv begin to leak after being in use especially on gasolene and disbeing had to the accompanying and to the characters of reference which form a part of this tillate tanks due to the absence of any lubrieating qualitieskin such fiuids. The valve seat 1n such commonly used faucets being of intricate parts it is almost impossible to successfully repair the faucet to prevent the leakage and the result that there is a great deal of waste of the material and also other objectionable features.
In my improved invention I aim not only to produce a valve for the faucets which will be less susceptible to leakage and also one in which when the leakage occurs the 4seat may be quickly and easily renewed at very little expense.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a erusal of the following specification and c aim.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Referring now more particularly to the and exact description of the same,l
characters of reference on the drawings the numeral 1 designates the faucet casing turnable in whlch is the valve stem 2 having an operating handle 3. The operating handle 3 is hinged to the stem 2 as at 4 and is provlded with a slot 5 whereby it may be fitted over a lock bar 6 and locked in position by means of a padlock or other suitable means 7. This plrevents tampering with the contents of t e receptacle by an unauthorized person.
My improved valve structure is provided by means of forming an annular recess 8 at the head of the faucet 1 and placing therein the removable valve seat 9, such valve seat 9 being of course centrally orificed as is usual. Between the valve seat 9 and the stem 2 the faucet casing 1 is proyided with a web 10 movable through which is a 1n 11 carrying on its outer end a disk or p ate 12.. On the stem 2 is an eccentric cam 13 whlch moves againstv the disk 12 when the stem 2 is turned to force the pin 11 a ainst the valve plug 14 and open communication through the orifice in the valve seat. The disk 12 of course is of lesser diameter than the orifice to permit of free How of fluid therethrough. The numeral 15 designates an auxiliary casing provided with threads 16 arranged to engage threads 17 in the recess 8. The end of this casing 15 engages the valve seat 9 and holds it in position within the annular recess 8. The opposite end of the casing 15 is threaded as at 18 to fit on to the outlet pipe of the fluid containingxieceptacle or on any other fitting desired. ithin the casing 15 is a caging 19 terminating at its end in a web 20. On the valve plug 14 is a caging 21 terminating in a ring 22 which when the parts are assembled is guided along the caging 19. 'A spiral spring 23 normally holds the valve plug 14 against the valve seat 9 to keep the aucet closed.
When it is desired 'to use the faucet, the handle 3 is released and used to turn the stem 2. This action turns the cam 13 into engagement with the disk 12 and moves the pin 11 against the plug 14 and forces it back against the pressure of the spring 23. This opens communication through the orifice in the valve seat 9 into the faucet 1. The fluid flows through the casing 15 and through cagings 19 and 21 and around the plu 14.
`plug and valve seat may be made so as to have a perfectly tight fit with respect to each other which greatly lessens the tendency of the faucet to leak. "If leakage should occur either the valve seat or the plug can quickly and easily be renewed at a small expense by merely withdrawing the faucet from the casing 15.
Instead of the valve. plug 14 I may use a ball valve 24 as shown in Fig. 2 but would still have a removable valve seat 9a. Or I may useA instead ofthe valve structure herein described an independent tubular member 25 which would be held in position within the annular recess 8 and would be provided at vits outer end with a valve plug 26 which would have thereona pin 27 projectin to a point adjacent the cam 13. rlhe va ve would .be normally held closed by means of a spring 28 interposed between the web 29 within the member 25 and a pin 30 on the pin 27. This spring would normally hold the valve plug closed and then when the cam 13 engaged the pin 27 it would open the valve. This structure could likewise be easily renewed if leakage occurred.
From the foregoin description it will be 35, readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulls the object of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction 40 of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail maybe resorted to as do not form a de arture from the spirit of the invention as efined by the appended claim. 45
Having thus described my invention what.
I claim as new and useful and desire to se-v cure by Letters Patent is:
A faucet comprising a casing provided with a removabley valve seat, a spring pressed valve plug normally held against the seat, a guide web immediately adjacent the valve seat, a pin guided through the web and engaging the plug, a valve stem, a cam on they stem engageable with the pin to move the plug away from the seat, the spring pressed plug normally holding the pin in engagement with the cam.
