Be it known that ll, Lome Genero, a citizenot theA United States, residing at Spartanburg, in the county of ySpartanburg and .State of South Sardina, have invented new and useful improvements in Ventilatore, ot' which the @following is a specificatione l This invention comprehends the provision ot a ventilator adapted for use with slanting roots of houses, barns and other building structures, the ventilator being designed to be secured to the root by the shin les thereof, and thus immovably maintaine in position. Y Another object oli importance resides in the provision ot a construction ot ventilator which prohibits entrance ci rain, insects or lust into the building through the ventiator.
The nature and advantages ot the invention will -bebetter understood when the tol lowing detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement or parts as claimedi', t
ln the drawing termin part oit this specireterence indicate similar parte in the several vviews and whereinzm .Figure l is a top plan view ot a root showing the ventilators positioned thereon..
Fig. 2 i a vertical sectional view talren i through the root and one ot the ventilators.

Fig.. ia a detail view partly in section ot one ot the ventilators.
The ventilator torming the subject matter ot'my invention may be' constructedv from any suitable material, preterably metal, and embodies a relatively large base l which may vary .in condguration but which as herein shown-is ot rectangular outline. The base is primarily utilized tor attaching the ventilatorto the part with which itis to be associated., which'ae shown in this instance is a slanting root A ot a house, barn or other building. The base may also vary in dimensions, and is adapted to. be covered 4by the shingles B ot the lroot and in this manner is immovably maintained in a 'ven position u on the root.. The hase wis ot course .provi ed with'an enlargedv central opening to coincide with an opening ot similar'size provided in the root. Proyecting trom one side ot the baseis anemie lindrlcal VAaan M whim it thm@ e @peana la the two 'side edges contacting said dashing, .its opposite end edge spaced trom the a base, the opening being covered by the wall 1l and end walll l2 which terminates in spaced relationto the base as shown. Suitably secured in any suitable .manner to the base over` the opening in the latter is a piece ot foraminated. material, such as a wire screen indicated atal3, and this obviously prevents insects trom gaining access to the building by way of the ventilator. The end wall 12in addition to being spaced a sli ht distance from the base as at 'lll is provldedswith a plurality of spaced parallel slotsil which together with the space lt permits entrance ot air into the building.
Uverhanging each ot the slots l5 is aneX-.
tension or Hangs 16 formed trom the end wall 12,7and these danges coperate with a Ihood 17 overlying the end wall 12 and tormlng a continuationot the wall 1l, to prevent rain and dust trom entering the lbuilding through the ventilator. Any number ot 'such ventilators may be utilized and placedabout the root in the most advantageous position. 'lhe ventilator is not only simple in construction, but is very ecipnt lor the purpose inv tended.
' While it is believed )trom the foregoing description that the nature and advantages ot the invention will be readily apparent, l desire to have it understood that what -is herein' shown and described is merely illustrative ot the preferred embodiment of the invention to which l do not limit myselt, and that such changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to when desired as tall within the scope ot what is claimed.
Whatis claimed isz- A ventilator comprising a base constituting a dashin adapted to be' positioned beneath the shingles ot a'rool, whereby thel ventilator is secured to the latter, said flashing having a central Opening arranged upon said dashing, and surrounding the opening therein, said hood including- .a curved wall having one end edge and its tter a. portion ot said dashin adjacent the open-s ing therein being curve outwardly and upwardly, said hood also including a vertiand lll@
tion of the flashing, and to the curved wall of the hood, said foramnated sheet being disposed in spaced parallelism with the straighowall, said straight wall of the hood 5 termmating short of said ashing and provided yvith a plurality of spaced parallel slots, anges projecting from said end Wall daewoo and overlying said slots, and said curved wall of the hood projecting beyond the upper edge of the straight wall and inclined 10 lovnwardly as and for the purpose specie ln testimony whereof aix my si ature.
