To all whom it may concern:
' fication.
The present invention pertains to a push pole pocket or casting for particular use on railway freight cars and the principal object in connection. with the same is to provide a combined push pole pocket and jacking block, andto'form and shape the casting so that in addition to the one elemental device serving to strengthen and brace the other, the
entire casting may be used to brace the, corner of the car. Uther objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists in thecombination and formation of parts as will be herein detendin scribed and finally claimed. In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the device, Fig. 2 an end elevational View, and Fig. 3 a side eleva tional view. i
Referring to these drawings, the entire device is a single piece of cast metal and includes vertical walls l and2 at the front and side respectively, these being substantially at right angles with each other; Ex-
out from these, at the outer angle thereo is the push pole pocket 7. -The walls :1 and 2 fit around the corner of,the car and through the holes 3 in the same are applied securing rivets '6.
Cast ofl" from'the rear of these walls and extendingunder the corner of the car and across the inner. angle of the walls. is the jacking pad 4, the same being a horizontal floor of metal. This floor is adapted to contact the bottom of a corner post or angle-5 so that in jackingnp the car the, forces go to thelrivet's 6. The under surface of the jacking pad is roughened to prevent slipping of thejack. 1
The walls" 1 and 2, with the rim of the pocket '7 ,-"'support and brace. the jacking pad, and the floor on pad 4 in turn backs up Specification of Letters Patent.

the pole pocket so that the metal is advantageously distributed. Also, the angular casting stiffens and braces the corner of the .car. Braces 8 and 9 may be applied to further stiffen the parts of the casting.
I have thus-described an embodiment of my invention.
What I claim is,
1. A corner casting for railway cars comprising two vertical Walls cast together at their edges to form an angle iron construction, a horizontal jacking pad cast integral therewith and extending from the bottom of one wall to the bottom of the other across the inside angle defined by the two walls, a
push pole pocket also cast integral therewith and disposed on the outer faces of the vertical walls and overlying the junction point of said walls, and holes in the vertical. walls for attaching said vcastlrfg to the car.
2. In ear construction, a body having a corner with a vertical post therein, a casting, on' the outer .face of saidcorner and having Walls embracing the same and secured thereto, a horizontal jacking pad cast integral with said walls and tying the same together and extending under the said corner post, the said pad being formed to bear against the under end of saidpost and the said walls rising therefrom on the outside ofthe said corner post.
3. Tnoar construction, a body having a cornerwith a vertical post therein, a casting on the outer face of said corner having walls embracing the same and secured thereto, a hbrizontal jacking pad cast integral wlth said walls and tying the same together and extending under the said corner post, said pad being formed to bear against the under end of said post, and a 'poling pocket also cast integral with saidcasting and disposed on the outer angle thereof. ,directly to this angle and are not delivered In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I BYERS WQKADEL.
