TIMOTHY J'. IEEHEY, 0F INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO JAMES OCONNELL, 0F BEDFORD, INDIANA, AND ONE-THIRD TO THOMAS IE. KEATING, OF
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
POCKET-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1e, 191s.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TIMOTHY J. LEEHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Pocket-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a pocket lock, and the objects of the invention are, first to provide a lock with means for attaching the same within the mouth of a pocket, second, to provide means for releasing the lock, third, to provide a simple, durable, and efficient lock.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combie nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a central transverse section of the lock applied to a pocket;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation with the casing removed;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the complete device;
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the same.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference In forming the lock a main plate 1 is provided which may be of any suitable and preferred formation and to this plate is secured in any usual way a casing 2.
The plate 1 is centrally apertured and has spun thereon or attached thereto about said aperture an annular ange 3 which registers with an aperture formed in the face of casino' 2.
tiveted or otherwise secured in the plate 1 are pins 4 which extend forwardly of said plate and are spaced about the flange 3. These pins act as a guide for a rectangular yoke 5 which slides between the pins and embraces the flange 3.
The inner edges of the sides of the yoke 5 are offset inwardly to provide the lugs or jecting corners of the lugs 6 may be beveled l for a purpose hereinafter set forth.
An expansion spring 7 is interposed between one end of the yoke and the flange 3. for the purpose of retaining the yoke in position with the lugs 6 extending through the slots. The tongue 8 extends from the other end of the yoke 5 passing through a suitable aperture formed in the casing 2 for that purpose. The end of tongue 8 is apertured to permit attachment of one end of a wire or cord 9 which may be drawn to move the yoke against the force of the eX- pansion spring 7.
A button is provided with an annular flange 10 around its base and with an annular groove 11 formed near its head end. The end or head of this button is curved or beveled, as shown, so that, when it enters the socket formed by the flange 3, it will Contact the beveled ends of the lugs 6 and force the lugs and yoke against the pressure of the spring 7 to allow the head of the button to pass the lugs so that the lugs may, under the force of the spring, snap into place within the groove 11.
A leaf spring 12 is secured to the back of the plate 1 and its free end overlies the aperture in said plate so that it may contact the head of the button and force the same from the socket when the yoke is drawn to position to withdraw the lugs 6 from the groove 11.
The plate 1 is provided with apertures 13 spaced about its edge through which thread may be passed to secure the lock within the mouth of a pocket of a garment 14. The flange 10 of the button is likewise provided with apertures 15 which receive thread by which the button is secured to the inner side of the outer lip 16 of the pocket.
As will be seen the wire or cord 9 is led to any suitable point, sufficiently remote from the pocket and the end is exposed to be grasped when it is desired to open the lock.
By this means the pocket is protected from entry by one not familiar with the location of the end of the wire or cord 9.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is
l. A pocket lock, including a plate there being a central annular flange on said plate, said flange provided with slots, a yoke embracing the angeand having lugs projecting through the slots, a button adapted to enter within the flange and having an annular groove for the reception of the lugs, means for retaining the yoke in button engaging position, and means for drawing the yoke to button released position.
2. A. pocket lock, including a plate, there being a central annular flange on said plate, said flange provided with slots, pins secured to the plate and spaced about the flange, a yoke embracing the ange and sliding between the pins, there being lugs on the yoke projecting through the slots, a button adapted to enter within the flange, said button having a groove for the reception of the lugs, means for retaining the yoke in button engaging position, and means for drawing the yoke to button released position.
3. A pocket lock, including a plate provided with an aperture, a yoke sliding on the plate and surrounding the aperture there being lugs on the yoke normally extending over the aperture, a button adapted to enter the aperture, said button having a groove for the reception of the lugs, means for retaining the yoke in button engaging position, and means for drawing the yoke to button released position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I havev hereto atliXed my .signature in the presence oi two witnesses.
