THREAD-GUIDE FOR TEXTILE-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 19 18.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREEMAN CAss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brook lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Guides for Textile-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in thread guides for textile machinery and particularly to improvements in guides having the general form or including a hook for normally preventing escape of the thread from the guide-eye.
In the operation of textile machinery the thread is subjected to a variety of vibrations that tend to dislodge it from the eye of the guide. By the construction hereinafter described the thread may be readily introduced into the guide-eye and will be prevented from escaping from said eye by vibrations in any direction.
In the accompanying drawing there is illustrated in elevation and partial section a thread guide embodying the present invention.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that the improved guide is of the same general character or type as has been heretofore employed comprising a body A of porcelain or similar material having at its lower end a socket B, to receive the drop wire of a doubling or textile machine, or the support on which the guide is to be mounted.
In the body A above the socket B is formed a vertically elongated eye, the rear wall C of which is substantially straight, and an upwardly inclined slot D extends through the forward wall of said eye and acts to guide the thread thereinto.
As shown the upper wall of this entrance slot is preferably in a plane slightly in ad vance of the forward end of the lower wall of such slot, and the vertical plane of the lower portion of the body A, so that as the thread is moved upwardly along said body it will contact with the upper wall of said slot and be readily guided thereby into said eye.
The elongated eye of the guide is probers E, F. It will be seen that the free ends of the hook like members, referred to, are relatively close to the rear wall C of the elongated eye and that the inner end of the member E is in a plane slightly in rear of the plane including the corresponding part of the member F. The free ends of said members E F respectively lie above and below the lower and upper walls of the recesses C C so as to effectively resist rear movement of the thread from said pockets. 7
It will be appreciated that with a guide of the particular form shown and described the hook like members E F will cooperate to effectively retain the thread in proper engagement with the guide, regardless of whether it is slack or taut, and even if the thread should break there" is little danger of its becoming displaced from the guide;
Having thus is claimed is: v
1. A thread guide for textile machinery comprising a body having an elongated eye adjacent its upper end, both ends of said eye being provided with lateral extensions arranged to form two opposed hook like members, arranged one above the other and an upwardly inclined slot extending into said eye through the side wall thereof bedescribed my invention what the purpose described.
2. A thread guide for textile machinery comprising a body having at its lower end a socket to receive a suitable support and provided near its upper end with an elongated eye and with an upwardly inclined slot that extends into said eye, the rear wall of said eye being substantially vertical throughout its length and the ends of the eye being provided with forwardly directed lateral extensions which with the walls of said slot form two opposed hooks arranged respec tively above and below said slot, for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
FREEMAN CASS.
