WINDOW AND SCREEN.
, Specification or Letters Patent.
Patented r. 9, 1918.
Application filed September 8, 1017. Serial No. am.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I Fnux Onoaxowsnr, a citizen of Russia, residing at Clarksbur in of Harrison and State of est V11 inia, ave invented certain new and use. ful mprovements in Windows and Screens, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention re ates to windows and screens therefor and has Special reference to a detachable roller window screen. r
One important object of the invention 15 to improve and simplif the general construction of devices of this character.
A second imsortant object of the invention is to provi e an improved roller screen which may be attached to any window now in existence without interfering with the usual movement of such window to any extent and without makingit necessary to reconstruct any of the parts of the window or frame.
A third important object of the invention is to rovide a screen of this character which ay locked in closed position both for 'nvenience in portability and to hold the window locked.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter ap arent the invention consists in general certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indlcatelike parts in the several views, and Fi re 1 is a face view of the inside of the ower portion of a window equipped with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of ig. '3 is a section on the line 3-3 of kg. 4 is an enlarged detail plan view of the casing removed from the window and ermit the device being shown on a large sea e. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55 of ig. 6 is a perspective view of the lockbolt used herewith.
in n the embodiment of the invention herein disclosed there has been disclosed a window and its frame; the frame consisting of side members 10 and a sill 11 and the window having ordina glazed sash 12. Movable into and out 0 position on the sill 11 is a casing 13, the window molding being cut away at its lower part to accommodate the ends of the casing as can be seen by reference to Fig. 1 at 14. Within this casing is mounted an ordinary spring shade roller 15 whereon is wound a fiexible'screen 16 fittin between the sides. On the free edge of this screen there is provided a bar 17 having lugs or studs 18 on its upper edge which are arranged to fit in suita le openings 19 on a bar 20 screwed or otherwise secured to the lower edge of the sash 12. Thus the screen is readily detachable from the sash and the sash can be shut down in the ordinary manner, a pocket 21 bein provided in the sill for the reception of t e studs 18. The casing is greferably made with the frontand top hinge as at 22 to the bottom and these parts are held in locked position by means of books 23. Fu crmore, within thecasing is a cam plate 2 k; ugedjto the top and through the casing passe! a locking bar 25 having a bent portion 26 forming a lug which en- ,%es the cam bar when in one position to no the locking bar inward while, when the locking bar is in its second position, the lug is so moved as to permit outward movement of the locking bar as a whole. On the end of this locking bar is a lug 27 which is arranged to fit, when the window is closed in an opening 28 formed in the bar 17. T us when the window is closed it can be locked in closed position by the locking bar and also, when it is desired to remove the screen entirely from the window, the edge of the screen may be locked in positionso that it cannot-slip into the casing and wind up too It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. The combination with a window frame and sash; of a casing removably fixed in the lower part of said frame, a roller in said casing, a screen carried b said roller, coacting connecting means on t e sash and the end of the screen, and lockin means carried by the casing and engageab e withthe connecting means on the screen to prevent movement of the latter relative to the casing.
2. The combination with a window frame and sash; of a casing removably fixed in the lower part of said frame, a roller in said casing, a screen carried by said roller coacting connecting means on the sash and the end of the screen, comprising bars fixed to the lower edge of the sash and the end of the screen, .one of said bars having openings the lower part of said frame, a re ler in said casing, a screen carried by said roller, co-
acting connecting means on the sash and the end of the screen, and lockin means carried by the casing and engagea 10 with the connecting means on the screen to prevent movement of the latter relative to the casin the means on the screen also having a 100 bolt receiving openin and a lock bolt carried by the casing an arranged to enter the last-mentioned opening.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
