KNOCKIDOWN YARN-REEL.
My invention relates to knock-down reels and more particularly to a reel adapted for use in winding yard.
The invention is, more specifically stated,
an improvement in that type of yarn reel in which pairs of radial arms are slidably adjustable in a head rotatable on a suitable base. The details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts are as hereinafter described, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a knockdown yarn reel embodying my invention, showing the same set up for use;
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section on an enlarged scale, parts of certain of the arms being broken away;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary side view of a portion of one of the reel arms and its post, a portion of the arm being broken away.
In carrying out my invention in practice, in accordance with the illustrated example, a suitable base 10 isprovided which advantageously has transverse intersecting grooves 11 at the under side toinsure that the base will take a firm seat on a table or like support. A revoluble head 14 is stepped in the base, said head having a depending pin 13 which is removably receivable in a step hearing 12 in the base. 7
Inthe rotatable head 14, upper and lower mortises 15, 16 are produced, transversely V to each other and at different levels. The lower mortise 16 is of less height than the Specification of Letters Patent.

upper one. A pair of arms 17 is adapted to be received slidably in overlapped relation in the upper mortise 15, and a similar pair of arms 18 is received in the same relation in the lower mortise 16. The aggregate thickness of the lower pair of arms 18 is greater than the depth of the lowermortise 16.
The arms are of uniform thickness; therefore, the arms of either pair are receivable in either. mortise. The additional height of the mortise'15 accommodates in addition to the overlapped arms therein, a wedge 19.
The described arrangement results in the upper arm 18 lying partially across the upper mortise 15 to thus lie in contact with the lower arm 17, whereby the single wedge 19 will firmly bind all the arms in fixed relation to the head let to turn therewith and conversely the removal of the wedge 19 permits of all the arms being withdrawn from the head to knock down the reel.
Each arm 17, 18 carries a post 20 to receive the yarn, the posts having depending pins 21 removably fitting vertical pin holes 22 in the respective arms. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
The improved knock-down yarn reel comprising a rotatable head having two communicating mortises arranged transversely to each other and at diiterent levels, a pair tise, the lower pair of arms having greater aggregate thickness than the depth of the lower mortise, and a wedge receivable in the said upper mortise upon the upper pair of arms, whereby it is adapted to clamp both pairs of arms adjustably against each other and in the head, as described.
