Description

L. LEWITZKY.
BAKING PAN.
APPLICATION FILED nov.2a. 19:].
1,261,566. Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
III)! @FFIQE LOTTIE LEWITZKY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA,
BAKING-PAN.
Application filed November 28, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lo'r'rin LnwrrzKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia an l 'State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Baking-Pans, 01 which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in baking pans and has for its object to provide an improved construction of pan with detachable side walls whereby the sides may be swung down to inspect the material therein and when desired entirely separated for the purpose of thoroughly cleaning the several parts.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing whcrein,
Figure 1, shows the improved pan in perspect-ive.
Fig. 2, illustrates on a slightly bolder scale one corner of the improved pan, the same showing the parts in side view.
Fig. 3, shows the same parts, but in the turned down position.
Fig. 1, illustrates the same in top plan, and
Fig. 5, shows in perspective, one corner of the pan-bottom.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 6, designates the pan bottom having upstanding stationary side and end walls 7 and 8 respectively which are pressed therefrom and are integral one with the other, whereby to avoid joints or cracks at the corners 9, thereof. Below the upper edge 10, the said site and end walls of the bottom are provided with outwardly punched open ended eyes 11, which extend parallel with the top edge 10. The precise number of these tubular eyes is immaterial to the invention, but in the present instance the side walls 7 are provided with three while the end walls 8, are provided with two such eyes.
Movable side and end walls 12 and 13 are provided for the pan. Each of these movable walls has a reinforce roll 14:, along its upper edge, and each end wall 13, has a flange 15, at each end of its rolled edge which flanges project substantially at a right angle to the wall for a purpose that will presently be explained.
The lower edge 16, of each movable side and end wall 12 and 13, projects below the upper edge 10, of the stationary walls 7 and 8 of the bottom, and said edges 16, have Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
Serial No. 204,348.-
a position along the outer sides of the stationary walls 7 and 8, and directly over the outwardly-projecting eyes 11, as clearly shown in F 1 and 2, of the drawing.
Each movable wall 12 and 13, has a plurality of tubular eyes 17, formed integrally with and projecting from the lower edge 16 thereon-*the eyes being so spaced as to assume positions at the ends and in close proximity to the open ended eyes 11, on the stationary walls 7 and 8, so that the two sets of eyes 11 and 17, on the coacting walls will be in alinenient, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
A pintle rod or wire 18, extends through the alined eyes 11, and 17, on the coacting walls so as to pivotally connect the two and these pintles are detachable in that they may be readily withdrawn for the purpose of detaching the movable walls and enabling the several parts to be thoroughly cleaned.
The flanges 15, that project from the end walls 13, snugly embrace the outer sides of the movable side walls 12, and the upper edges 19, of these flanges, when in position, project under the curled edge 14:, of the side walls, as shown in broken lines in Fig. 2, of the drawing.
A latch 20, is pivotally connected to each flange 15, and has a hook 21, on its free end, and between the hook and the pivot, said latch has a loop 22, which forms a thumbpiece by which the latch may be readily swung up or down.
Each movable side wall 12, has near its ends outwardlyprojccting latch-eyes 23, which are so positioned to receive the hooks 21 on the latch and thereby hold the side and end walls in an upstanding position.
It will be understood that when the pan is in use, as when baking a cake, the movable walls 12 and 13, may be readily turned down to expose the side of the cake for inspection during baking, or for removal after baking, and that all the parts may be separated and thoroughly cleaned.
Having described my invention what I claim is,
In a baking pan the combination with a bottom having an lip-standing rigid wall along each side with a plurality of outwardly-projecting open-end eyes below the top edge of said rip-standing wall, of a movable wall ateach side of the rip-standing wall and each movable wall having its lower edge lapping and projecting below the top edge of the rigid Wa1l,said lower edge of each movable Wall having a tubular eye which registers With an open end eye on the rigid Wall; a pintle passing through the tubular and open-end. eyes; a flange on one movable Wall that projects on the outer side of the next achacent movable Wall and means LOTTIE LE WITZKY.
