Description

5M. '1. LAMBRIX.l CHILDS UNDERWAIST.
APPLICATION FILED IULY 31.19I7.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
` NETE STATES MARY J. LAMBRIX, OF BUFFALO, .NEW YORK.
CHILDS UNDERWAIST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 191e.
Application filed July 31, 1917. Serial No. 183,695.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY J. LAMBRIX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bud'alo, in the county of Erie, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Childrens Underwaists; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y
This invention relates to improvements in undergarments and is directed more particularly to underwaists for children.
An object of theV present invention resides in the provision of an underwaist wherein the several sections are so constructed and assembled as to prevent slipping of the garment from the shoulders and its binding upon the body of the wearer, there being thus insured perfect freedom of movement no matter what position the wearer may assume.
With the above and other objectsof similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set `torth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
ln the drawing Figure -1 is a front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with the invention.
F ig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a side view.
Fig. e is a detail section taken on the line A of Fig. 1.
F ig. is a section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and,
Fig. 6 is a sectional View taken on the line (3-6 of F ig. 3.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown a childs underwaist consisting of a front section 10, two similarly patterned back sections 11 and 12 respectively stitched to the trout section and provided on their adjacent ends with buttons and button Vholes which serve to close the waist at the back. The
. sections 10, 11 and 12 when assembled provide a waist having the arm holes 13 and a neck opening 14, the front of the waist from the bottom edge to the neck opening being shirred as at 15 to lend to the waist a certain degree of fullness so that it will not lit too snugly and bind upon the body of the wearer.
The front section 10 at the neck opening is provided with an extension which is folded inwardly and stitched to and shirred with the front section 16 to form therewith a pair of pockets 17, elastic bands 18 being passed through the pockets and stitched to the front section outwardly of the shirring. Thus the w ist at the neck opening will be caused to tit the wearer snugly and be prevented from slipping off the shoulders while it will yield freely during the various move ments of the body so as at no time to bind and discomt'ort the wearer.
For reinforcing the waist, there is provided two duplicate sub or side sections 19 which are placed upon and stitched to the front and rear sections, said side sections each passing over a shoulder of the waist with its ends overlapped beneath the adjacent armhole and being continued downwardly along the side armhole seam to a point slightly below the bottom edge of the waist. The side sections adjacent their lower ends are provided rearwardly of the side seam with eyes 2O for the attachment of the usual elastic supporters (not shown) and are further provided forwardly of the seam with buttons 21 through the medium of which the usual undergarments are attached to the waist.
The waist is further provided with the usual waist band 22 around which buttons 23 are placed at intervals to further assist in supporting the undergarments. It' desired the band 22 centrally of the front section may be provided with a box plait so that the band may be let out should it lit the wearer too snugly. By arranging the supporter attaching eyes rearwardly of the side seams and the garment attaching buttons 2l forwardly thereof, it is evident that the downward pull of the supporters and undeu garments will be. equalized, while the provision of the shirring and elastic permit oi perfect freedom of movement of the body without the waist by any possibility binding thereon. i
It will be noted that the side sections 19 extend toward the front of the waist and terminate adjacent the shirring, the ends of the elastic insertions 18 being stitched there of the Waist, and an elastic icand passed to as Well as to the front section so that the through the pocket with its ends stitched to latter Will not be pulled out of shape. the adjacent portions of the side sections What I claim iszand to the Waist. An underwaist provided with arm holes In testimony whereof I aiix my signature and a neck opening, the front of the Waist in the presence of two Witnesses.
being shirred and provided with a pocket MARY J. LAMBRIX. adjacent the neck opening, side reinforcing Vitnesses: sections secured around the arni holes and ALBERTINA C. WECHTER,
lo terminating in spaced relation at the front JOHN Gr. Lnsswme.
